3. 50/6
4. 4 6/7
5. 12
6. 12 2/4 or 12 1/2
Have a look here http://webmath.com/convfract.html and you can explain to your daughter how it works.

Its simple enough mate - express the first 3 numbers as improper fractions and the next three, which are improper fractions as numbers with fractions.
1. 15/4
2. 27/5
3. 50/6
4. 4 6/7
5. 12
6. 12 2/4 or 12 1/2
Have a look here Conversion Between an Improper Fraction and a Mixed Number - WebMath and you can explain to your daughter how it works.

Answers are one thing, can she see how the answers were arrived at? And I DO NOT mean Scoobynet
Get her to learn that the number on the BOTTOM of each fraction tells you how many it was split into. ......... So 3/4 means three bits out of FOUR.
Thus 3 3/4, means three whole ones and 3 parts out of four. Each whole one will be FOUR parts, three is 3 x 4 parts =12, so the total is 12 + 3 = 15

Hang on here a minute. All the people on this thread complaining about how hard this is yet every thread I read on SN tells me that education standards are slipping and exams are too easy thanks to Lying Labour.
So which is it?

A recipe for 2 people requires 3/8 of a pint of milk. You want to cook the meal for 8, how much milk do you need? (Clue if you go in the Co-op and ask for 12/8 of a pint of milk they will not be able to help.)

If his kids maths problem had been Trigonometry, then I'm sure he wouldn't need help. However, it's not Trigonometry.

This place is handy for brushing up on maths
I was handed some polynominals at college to do last year, I remember doing them at school but my mind was just blank. Basic maths seems to stick with you as you use it every day but if you don't brush up on the obscure stuff you will lose it.
