BRIT awards: Best Brit album in 30 years
Just out of interest. Radio 2 hosted a public vote of the best album in the past 30 years. Now I don't know about you, but I think teh shortlist is pretty restrictive; most are too new IMO with many newer acts (Dido, Duffy, Coldplay etc.) don't hold a candle to some of the older albums that stood the test of time.
For example, I've played Rockferry twice (to confirm it was pants before deletion); In contrast I've played Brothers in arms probably a hundred times.
Anyhoo, what's your choice?

I voted for Oasis. Fantastic Album, really gets you going. I only wish they brought out a version that could be played on a proper HiFi.
Urban Hymns would be my second choice, some very good songs on that album.

Dire Sraits followed closely by Oasis, from that list anyway. No OK Computer, nothing by The Smiths, or (sacrilege), Stone Roses/Stone Roses.
Lets look at the evidence before us :- Duffy over Stone Roses, Dido over The Smiths? In fact, what about the White Room, The KLF?

I've gone for Oasis mainly because it's the only album I still occasionally play despite the absolutely dire production. I went to see them live at Earl's Court and the sound was bloody awful then too. The result of too many Class As I guess.
I have five of the albums on that list but may just download a few more. Oh and they seem to have missed Take That off the list...

I don't think Take That have ever had a great album but secretly i love them, fooking great music but their albums are full of too many filler tunes.

What no In Rainbows? or OK Computer ?
I also agree with the Deffo Maybe comments.
M444GY, you have to remember not everyone is going to see it as pissy suicide music, their ears are more receptive to it and they get it, it does't necessarily need a bass line that drowns everything else out to make it touch your soul
These for instance could be classed as suicide music but I'd class them as beautiful soul touching music you can immerse yourself in, horses for courses eh
YouTube - Massive Attack - Special Cases
YouTube - Radiohead - House of Cards

Nothing there worth voting for
I do own five of them, but any one of; The Stone Roses, Protection, OK Computer, Electric Landlady or even Definitely Maybe are more worthy of the title in my opinion

Hmmm in the last 30 years we have had Rolling Stones, Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zep, The Who, U2 (Irish but who cares) all of which are better groups and had better albums yet no mention of any of them?

I don't know what decade you're living in Dunk
But The Beatles split in 1970, The Stones haven't put a decent album out since Exile on Main St (1971), Keith Moon died in 1978 and the Who split not long after, and Physical Graffiti was released in 1975.
Unfortunately Anything '70s or before is now over 30 years old
An early U2 album could count I suppose, but they've been to busy disappearing up Bono's @rse ever since Rattle and Hum came out for me to rake them seriously anymore

Still, plenty of 80's albums out there that are worthy of being in that list. U2 is one of them as you say (Joshua Tree? ). Fleetwood Mac's Tango in the night is another that springs to mind - and both certainly had more staying power (as an album, not the artist) than those nominated by the Brits. Hell, even Take That's Beautiful World has far more worthyness than Duffy or Dido.

Steady on; this is 2010 now, so we can only go back as far as albums made in 1980 onwards. So forget Beatles, Zep, Who etc as their prime stuff was well before then.

But theres nothing on that list that comes near or even touches Joshua Tree

Which track ?
To be honest I struggle to listen to it,it had far to much airplay and being only 2nd CD I bought after geting a CD player I played it to death and can only stomach 3 tracks on there nowadays, great production values though.

Muse, Square Pusher ,Portishead, Tricky, Queen, Stone Roses, Prodigy, Primal scream, Chemichal brothers, The Smiths, Radiohead, Massive attack, and Spiritualized would hahve to be on any meaningful list to choose from.

Really interesting results...
Oasis big lead - OK gets my vote.
Big shocker is the number of Dire Straits fans. Jeez this is a Subaru forum not a bloody model making forum. Get a hold of your ***** men!
And I am from the same town as them and they still wouldn't get my vote!
