You On a Sickie Today?
Apparently, today is the most popular day to throw a sickie!!
I have very rarely been off sick ... a few days in many decades, cannot see the point in cheating the Employer.
I wonder which industry has the highest level of 'Sickies'? I know in the school I am involved with, it is running at over 30% FTE ..... to be honest I don't know if that is normal - it just seems really high to me!
Anyone better a typical 30% FTE sickies?

I have only spent 3 years of my working life as a proper fulltime employee, the majority of my working life i have been self employed.
I never pulled any sick days in the 3 years of proper employee status either........

I have not had a day on the sick in 12 years (and then i was in hospital bust up) and the company i work for regularly has an overall attendance in the 97/98% region per annum.

Local government is the worst, people used to know what the threshold was for getting dragged in an moaned at, one lads attendance perked up when we got a nice looking contractor. There were three women in the admin office and you never saw them in altogether, one or all were off sick all the bloody time.
I tend to go the other way as it winds me up when the same people throw a sickie all the time, they feel ill a lot of the time through booze, eating crap, no exercise and staying up late, their immune systems are crap so no wonder they feel rubbish, I am not above it all but try to go in a bit late if I feel bad as invariably I am in early and when you have been up and about, had a crap, cleaned your teeth, a shower, a brew you feel right as rain and ok you go to work but you don sit their feeling a fraud all day, though part of the problem is its seen as a victimless crime.
Worked with a guy at the Police, had MONTHS off with a bad back and came in saying how he had been working on his car, knocking walls down and carrying tonnes of rubble around, he would appear for a few weeks then dissapear only to return when it looked like half pay was looming, saying that, whilst he was skiving he wasnt causing any damage to the databases, local government can be the refuge for the clueless, lazy, pension sitters, clock watchers, malingerers and the dim and they get away with it.
Last time I had a sick day was at the Police, dragged my **** in full of a cold as I had a visitor in all day, wasnt with it but was there, got told not to come in the folowing day by my boss, about six years ago now, contracting makes you decide how ill you are, Jeremy Kyle or £350 ?
Thats said, not taking them occassionally makes you wonder who the fool is, the skivers or the dilligent for not taking the odd own when not 100 percent fit ?
Where I work we can work from home now so even if you throw a sickie you get mithered, boss doesnt mind working from home so the odd day to break the routineisnt a bad idea, Weds I have a long dentists appointment so will work from home then as having two appointments in one to replace filling, cant imagine me sounding like Marlon Brando would be good at work !

Could it be that shop workers don't get paid if they are off sick?

I agree with Pete, never thought there would be any satisfaction from cheating at being sick. The only thing likely to stop me was a bad head cold and luckily I rarely get those.
