Gil Scott-Heron
Watching him on Sky Arts HD - maybe one for the oldies - what a great, original and hugely influential musician.
I saw him in the Eighties and it was one of the greatest gigs I have ever been to. Phenomenal.

Sorry, but I have to say I have never heard of him....
just Googled him, and the one thing that sticks out is that his father was the FIRST black player for to play for Celtic !! (1950's)

How bizarre!! Gil's life could not have been more different as a sort of revolutionary poet and definitive rap artist before rap was even an idea!

Sadly I have just been watching the great and the good who have passed away in 2011 to see that Gil Scott-Heron died in May.
A huge, under-rated talent who was so influential to so many branches of modern black music. Only 62 as well.
