Brown could come through this stronger ... the British like an underdog, someone who has battled through against all odds ... I did think Blair would go down as one of our greatest leaders - it could, amazingly, turn out to be Gordon Brown who holds that honour!?

Got rid of one of the worlds most evil dictators?
Or is that not good enough?
Gordon Brown, however, appears to have led the world out of an economic destruction - which is better, would you say?

As stupid as some politicians appear to be, do you honestly think Labour really want another term in power?
It would seem once you are in the higher echelons of power it doesn't matter too much if you are in power or not - the gravy train is still stopping for you to jump on.
The NHS is broke and dangerous, the schools are broke and failing our children, and no government wants to be in power when they give in and put schools and the NHS into private hands - because we all know it won't work.
It would seem logical to allow another party in the hot seat, let them take all the carp and make it 10 times worse then come back in say 8 years time and claim to be the nations saviours.

I guess there are many reasons for this; rats leaving a sinking ship, had enough, know they won't get re-elected, taking advantage of a £65K golden goodbye....

As for Gordon clown - well he makes me laugh almost as much as you do.
Is the UK still in recession?

Blair, at best, helped Bush with Iraq
Brown has yet to lead Britain anywhere, let alone lead the world out of economic destruction.

But of course if he gets 51% support with 49% against that would be a split which would make the Tories think Christmas had come early
And will the MPs who are hanging up their boots be allowed to vote?
I think this would all be a good thing for the party if there was a popular and competent successor. But there isn't.

That'll be one of the "worlds most evil dictators" that has oil. Billy Liar didn't do "worlds most evil dictators" that didn't have oil!
But back to the leadership challenge, it really is pathetic that this bunch of slime-***** really think that the electorate are really interested in their internal political wranglings, when they should be, at least attempting, to run the country and get it out of the quagmire they've left it in.
"... It is high time for me to put an end to your sitting in this place, which you have dishonored by your contempt of all virtue, and defiled by your practice of every vice; ye are a factious crew, and enemies to all good government; ye are a pack of mercenary wretches, and would like Esau sell your country for a mess of pottage, and like Judas betray your God for a few pieces of money. Is there a single virtue now remaining amongst you? Is there one vice you do not possess? Ye have no more religion than my horse; gold is your God; which of you have not barter'd your conscience for bribes? Is there a man amongst you that has the least care for the good of the Commonwealth?Ye sordid prostitutes have you not defil'd this sacred place, and turn'd the Lord's temple into a den of thieves, by your immoral principles and wicked practices? Ye are grown intolerably odious to the whole nation; you were deputed here by the people to get grievances redress'd, are yourselves gone! So! Take away that shining bauble there, and lock up the doors. In the name of God, go! ..."
Come back Ollie, all is forgiven!

Only the really stupid think Brown wasn't elected by his party ....... that is the way things happen in this country - we vote for a party and they elect their leader.
I'm shocked you didn't know that basic, simple, principle of our political system -
