Default Anti whaling protesters.. Unlucky or just stupid?

Im not a whaling fan, but do question the methods of the protesters at times.

Give them a VERY expensive boat, and this is what happens to it.

We agree then mate.

Watching the footage, how can they possibly say the ship set a collision course for them. They are a tiny vessel which should be more than capapble of avoiding a collision.

Just a shame that such a fantastic boat has been lost in such a STUPID way!

Haven't they only just got that boat? One expensive trip then that!

This is probably a very stupid question based on the nature of this vessel but are they insured?

Certainly very foolish to try to take a boat like that on with their little one. What on earth did they expect? I have had trawlers bearing down on me while out fishing in my small boat and I would not hesitate to get out of the way. They are often on autopilot anyway!

They should spend the time trying to get the world to cancel the "experimental" licence that Japan has been given to catch whales!

theres been 2 series of whale wars on discovery channel, the first series they were successful in stopping the the whaling operations by consrtant harassment, the year after was another matter the japs had done their homework and totally counter acted the sea shepards tactics.this made the protestors more desparate which resulted with them crashing into one of the harpoon ships.they have been very lucky that no one has been killed or the mother ship the steve irwin has not been sunk.
in the last few episodes they showed the japs hunting minke whales and shooting them with a harpoon, trnasporting them onto the factory ship for butchering, and all the blood and guts being dumped overboard.i found it quite upsetting to watch and thats coming from a person who fishes, eats meat.aparently the japs see whales as just another fish and not a mammal.

They are idiots. I appreciate what they are doing, trying to prevent whaling, but their lack of skills, knowledge or even common sense was made very clear by the Whale Wars programme on Discovery. Was only a matter of time.

i watched both series and there a bunch of loons, but the japs have also overstepped the mark several times. The alarm sounding thing is an LRAD anti riot device used by the whalers to try to keep the hippys away. sends out sounds so loud they make you unable to even stand up. they actualy used it on a helicopter that was just watching. i don;t support what the anti whale rabble do, but to me doing that is bang out of order. wont surpise me if reports of someone being killed come out in the next couple of years the way things seem to be going

I agree, the constant game of raising the stakes which is being played can only end one way.

I do support what they do, but having watched whale wars, they did come over as pretty clueless and unprofessional. The only person who seemed to know what he was doing was the ex Marine Corps helicopter pilot. But thats not all that surprising.

Im glad im not the only one thinking they were pathetic and dangerous in their actions.
Also they lose a lot of face with their arguement, saying they are always attacked by the whalers.

Thank you for the demonstration of your mentality you fools. Such a shame to see the boat go to waste like that.

DD it was "dontated" to them by its previous owner a couple of months ago. I dont think even he thought they would go and do something like that with it, unless the person ni charge really believed he was driving the bat-boat!

Got to love spin.....

Paul Watson has confirmed that the Japanese whaling vessel Shonan Maru #2 cut the high-tech $2 million Ady Gil in two, paralyzing her. He said the stealth boat was idling in waters near Commonwealth Bay when it was suddenly approached and rammed by the Japanese ship. “This seriously escalates the whole situation,” Watson told the Sydney Morning Herald.

Indeed, that collision was most definately avoidable and leaving aside what side you take on the pro or anti whaling point, that sort of action by the Japanese is unacceptable.

Under the curcumstances, I'd say the protesters were very lucky not to have been injured or killed.

They may be largely a bunch of idiots, but at least they are trying to do something to stop what most of civilised society now considers barbaric, totally unneccessary, and at one time threatened many species with extinction (and may still do)

I cant help but think that the Whalers are the ones that are pathetic idiots. Anti whalers are fighting a worthy cause, maybe its not the best way to do it but its worthy non the less. Many people on here, understandably, dont care much if whales live or die, and why would they. Not many whales knocking around England.

I think when the two are stood next to each other:
Whalers, Needlessly slaughtering truly great creatures for posh soup and unproven left wing medicine
Anti Whalers, Trying to make in economically un viable to continue whaling by being a right pain in the backside, in order to stop the needless slaughter of truly great creatures.

Its got to be people that believe whaling is ok that are the stupid ones.

A whale is a mammal, a fish isnt. I think thats the distinction their making.

As well as that, there is actually a ban on commercial whaling, one which the japanese are circumventing by applying for research whaling permits, catching hundreds of whales, carrying out research on about three of them, then sending the rest of them to the canning plant.

What the video doesn't show is the attacks these protesters make upon the whaling vessels, throwing chemical 'grenades' to taint the deck etc.

The water cannons weren't on to wash the boat down, they were a clear warning to stay away.

Wow, that video puts the first news article in a different light, eh?

The captain of the whaler should face charges for attempted murder, imo.

If you look at the wake behind the bat boat before impact, it looks like, to me, they put the power on and thus they crashed into the bigger boat, the guy was just using the zoom on the camera.

imo
