I'm not skiing this year due to not being able to get the time off work (or more specifically not being able to get today off!), but my mates have gone to Meribel in the French Alps and reckon its excellent. Very good après ski apparently, and prices not too excessive either with beers only about 4 euros!

Due to my knee op, I'll be skiing much later in the season, possible towards the end of March.

Our plan is to go to Les Gets with friends, they are booking now, but I'd sooner wait to see what snow conditions are like a bit closer the time.

I'm not so bothered by the Apres Ski, just the quality of the skiing. I'm too tired to go out anyway!

never been skiing but i have boarded in europe quite a bit, 3 valleys has always been great, hundreds of runs, all abilities, really good.
norway, specifically lillehammer, is good but limited runs, off piste is great.
liked switzerland but snow was rubbish when we went.

off to sauze d oulx in 9 days with my new nitro board !!

awesome holidays, would recommend it to everyone.for anyones first time i would advise having a couple of lessons, maybe one to one over here before you go to get the basics, then don t bother wth group lessons over there, just practice.

Got new boots and skis on Sunday Been to Milton Keynes twice if that counts, once a few hours after getting my kit and then on Tuesday afternoon for more. Conditions weren't too bad on Sunday, but Tuesday was quite busy Lots of snow boarders scraping the top layer of snow off

Heading off today to Val D'ISere where conditions are supposed to be fantastic.
Then in early Feb I have another week booked in Val Thorens.
Both these area are vast with good inter-connectability.
I use up a lot of my vacation time skiing (and have done so since I was a boy).
I like good quality ski gear and thus have Descente jackets and salopettes and Level gloves.
A first this year for me is having bought a ski helmet , having tried a rental one in Colorado, and agreeing that they make a lot of sense.

Happy New Year to all.

I am well jealous! Been having a look at Scotland over the past few days and it is looking good. Is this unusual for this time of year?

Have you got your own kit?

The Scottish hills are good from mid-December through until end of March, although you are better at Nevis Range or The Cairngorms. It can work out expensive if you don't have you're own gear.

I can make you even more jealous, when looking out of my front window.
Ive got Ben Nevis & Aonach Mhor (Nevis Range) as my view.

The snow has came a little bit early, its usually mid January before it arrives.
They are also celebrating its 20th anniversary at Nevis Range.

and the best bit I get it all free, my aunt is one of the bosses up there.

Pics from last year, as its to bloody cold to go outside today.
Its -7 at the moment !!!! , -15 last week.

Cracking place to live - is that Torlundy by any chance? I know the trek from the car park to the top of Ben Nevis very well (never had a key to the Alcan car park); I've also had some fantastic skiing off the back of Aanoch Mor into Spikes.

Very close to Torlundy, just down the road from me.

"never had a key to the Alcan car park" - are you referring to the locked gates that allow you up the hill with the water pipes to the alcan plant. If so you can join the road by going through the whiskey distillery just opposite the BP garage or goto the Golf course at Torlundy and walk along to old railway track to join up to the road.

I am referring to those locked gates, it's the walk that I'd like to avoid

Jealous, though I can do without the -15 coldness! Can't ride my motocross bike when the ground's that hard! Do you think it will be mega busy at half term? How do the runs get there if there are loads of people? Hope there's snow then, might have a few days up there if we can.

Haven't been on a slope for a few years, last time was Hidden Valley (Huntsville, Ontario - literally just up the road from where the G8/G20 is meant to be happening next year) for a couple of days in 2007.

Skis are, well, I want to say Rossinol? but don't think they are. Got them for $20 a few years ago (I'm still very much a newbie type). Boots are, tecnica diablo, or something like that. I did buy them brand new, plus have custom orthotic footbed thing in them.

Overall, nothing fancy as I'm still learning.

We might pop up to Blue Mountain and probably Mount Saint Louis Moonstone, and Glen Eden is pretty close by too. It's a bit boring for the wife as she can ski and lumpy here can't It is amusing having small kids fly past you but then most cannucks seem to be born wearing skis or skates

Watch out of the Swiss bagage hander strikes if you're flying to or from Switzerland. Few of my mates have just come back from spending a week in Meribel over NY, and have arrived back in the UK without their luggage...

Today I booked a week in Serre Chevalier. I've only read positive things about this resort so far.

They seem to have a reliable late season, good mixed ability runs and our lift pass gives us an away day in either Les 2 Alpes, Alpe d’Huez or Montgenèvre. Due to flight times we get nearly 7 full days skiing too.

I don't think snow is going to be a problem in most resorts this year!

Serre Chevalier had 40cm yesterday! Even the base slopes have 105cm now!

Saalbach last year. Brilliant, loads of slopes and next to another resort, Hinterglim and Leogang (if you have the energy to go that far...)

Planning to board this year and looking to book in the next couple of weeks. Aiming to be somewhere in mid/end of Feb for a week. Can't wait, I love the whole ski/get pissed after thing

Boarding in Arinsal in 4 weeks time. Not been for 2 years now.
Got lots of Dakine 686 clothing. DC Dual Boa boots, 5150 Crux board, with K2 Cinch bindings.

Booked up a week for £229 self catering (£120 extra for lift pass) based on 4 sharing. Pukka little place next to the gondola, only for 1 of the 4 people to drop out due to health, so currently looking to fill that spot.

Love boarding, makes you feel free and alive regardless of how good or crap you are at it.
If anyone wants the 4th space, flying from Gatwick 7th Feb, let me know..

CANT WAIT !

Heard there had been good fall around the Vallnord resorts over the past week. High pistes reporting almost a metre on the ground now.
