How do you say 2010?
Its Twenty Ten !
It's Twenty-ten, not Two-thousand and ten.
Say the year "1810" out loud. Now say the year "1999" out loud. See a pattern? It's been easier, faster, and shorter to say years this way for every decade (except for the one that just ended) instead of saying the number the long way. However, many people are carrying the way they said years from last decade over to this decade as a bad habit. If we don't fix this now, we'll be stuck saying years the long way for the next 89 years. Don't let that happen!

It IS Two Thousand and Ten.
Twenty Ten is what I would refer to as an Americanism. And as such, should be avoided at all costs - another systematic breakdown of the English language.

I probably say 'twenty ten' and 'two thousand and ten' interchangably. I agree that 'twenty ten' is an Americanism and I will have to start stabbing myself in the leg each time I say it to stop myself ...

they say that this decade will be the "teens" but the teen shouldn't start until 2013, so what will the years between now and then be called ???????

Clearly the OP has anything BUT too much time on his hands, since he is trying to promote a time saving method of using two syllables less every time he says the date.....
....however, if this "technique" is employed once a day for the next 40 years (sorry for the estimated lifespan jaybird, but that's all the time i'm giving you!!) then based on an average of 231 syllables speech per minute, you will have saved just over two hours of time.
So if you rephrase the question to: "what would you like to do for the next two hours, say the date or have your *** sucked?" the decision is easy
....however, if this "technique" is employed once a day for the next 40 years (sorry for the estimated lifespan jaybird, but that's all the time i'm giving you!!) then based on an average of 231 syllables speech per minute, you will have saved just over two hours of time.
So if you rephrase the question to: "what would you like to do for the next two hours, say the date or have your *** sucked?" the decision is easy

I'd say two thousand and... up to and including 2009 but then
I'd say twenty ten

I blame films like 2001: A Space Odyssey as to why we have referred to the 2000's as two thousand and....
So we are leaving the "Noughties" and so what decade are we going to?
Does it even have a name? Is it Tweens then Teens when we hit 2013 ?
Who knows? Who cares?
