Scooby Versus Ice.
Coming out of my unit this fine and icy morning in our Transit Crew Cab Tipper.
One of the best buses to drive in the ice and snow, turn out into Edwards Lane, Liverpool, and a poor sod in a black Scooby looked like he has "lost" it and heavily hit the kerb.
Arms flailing about, then a big wheel spin in reverse and shot off. Some expensive looking marks on the kerb.
I hope there wasn't too much damage, whoever you are.....

Have to say, Subaru's are sh!te in the snow.
Wide tyres + big power = lots of wheelspin.
To make any advantage of the AWD, you need Winter tyres on them.
My FWD Golf TDI is better in the snow than my Scoob was.

Her indoors said to me today, " Is the car sliding ? "
Foo me ! I was at 45 degrees and heading for the gas van that blocks the exit to my drive ( always !)

The traction control light was even flashing in third gear while I was driving on Sunday, giving plenty of drifting action.
I think skinny wheels and tyres would have benefitted me regardless of two or all/four wheel drive.

ay? my car was brilliant in the snow!! it didnt slide once i was really happy with it
iv got 18"s on it... i had to rescue my sister and my brothers girlfriend as my car was the only one that would go in the snow and had no problems...
i just must be a really good driver
and i have to add i didnt drive like a idiot as i had my 2 yearold daughter with me so i couldnt be naughty and have "fun" but got home safe with no problems damage etc

My wife used to do care in the community and one snowy day I suggested taking the scoob as in my innocents thought that as it was 4WD it would be the car equivilent of a mountain goat.
Doh!
We were the last car up the high street (this is wales so everything is on a hill) before the police closed it.
We didn't do too badly except a 2 hour shift lasted all day but asa we were going to be the only people the old and infirm saw we had to carry on.
No matter what car your in, once you lose traction your pretty much a passenger. We were sliding down a hill to a junction with a 4X4 sliding onto the junction as well - I was shouting at him to take his foot off the brake so he would pass me before I got there but I could see his front wheels were locked. I had to take my foot off the brake to speed up in order to get to the junction before the 4X4 but when we got to the junction we were never going to make the turn (hence why I shouted at 4X4 man) so we 360'd and managed to miss everything

gotta say, my classic has been the best car i've owned for driving in the snow and ice..
no abs, semi worn yokos (which are a nightmare even when new in the wet), i just take it easy, with no sudden activity (nothing new there) of course its always the ***** pulling out on you and stuff you need to be aware of. if people just took their time and were patient i think we'd see a remarkable drop in "incidents"...
i'll prob stack it tomorrow, you just see !!!
safe xmas all

Loved driving my bmw 328i in the snow these last few days. No problems at all, infact, considering it is wearing 225 rear tyres, it was incredibly predictable and easy to control. I think every journey involved driving along whilst looking out of the side window!

Have to agree mate. Drove my scooby back in the heavy snow the other night and it performed admirably.
I had read so many horror stories on here about how bad they are in the snow that I was quite apprehensive but I have to say that I don't know what you are all talking about.
Took it steady and whilst others around me were sliding on to roundabouts and slipping around, the scoob didn't put a foot wrong. As with any car on snow and ice, you have to drive it accordingly.

"Subaru's are sh!te in the snow"...Pa!
My 05 STI has not stopped yet on worn road tyres. I live in reading which was awful on Monday night Queuing traffic until gone 11PM because of snow and ice! I have pulled up hills overtaking 10-15 stuck front wheels drive cars BMW Mercs are a wast of time. A Subaru should not be compared to A proper "OFF ROAD'ER" Because they are cars! and as yet I have not got my car stuck ,from our drive to the main road there are three 90deg bends and two slopes steep enough to stop front wheel drive cars but ive managed to get out every morning first try, Yes if you drive like a spud straight into deep snow, yes you will get stuck... surprisingly!!! I'm an average driver with an amazing car, and i haven't got stuck yet, so if you've got stuck in defiantly not the car.....
