Default Board/Boxed Games ?

We have a cupboard full of games that no bugger ever plays, do you think time has passed a lot of them by, can you imagine coaxing a 14 year old of COD MW2 for a game of Ker Plunk (tm), its **** ! a cylinder with plastic spikes through and some marbles at the top that you have to avoid falling down by pulling the spikes out, its a foregone conclusion, compare and contrast with shooting realistic insurgents in lavish environments in Mogadishu or somewhere in a team with your mates from school against another team.

There seems to be some perception that these old games are more worthy and wholesome than video games, in fact video games have a really bad reputation, in moderation they are fine, no kid played Operation for as long as possible as frankly it was ****, mildly amusing for half an hour back in 1978 on a wet tuesday whilst we dug in for the 27 wait for the Xbox 360 to be invented.

We have loads of these but the kids would rather play with Dog Turds, people keep buying them, usually older relatives who are video game phobic, thinking that they can convince the kids that Cleudo is fun, maybe it used to be but I played it again recently and tried my best but its sooooo slow, ok Cleudo and Monopoly are the better ones as they are quite social but so it team speak, does the person have to be there all the time for it to be social ?

Lego and Meccano still seems to do it for kids, Scalextrix as well, plus stuff that involves going outside, ours still like a game of chess but this cupboard full of boxed games might as well go to the tip.

Will we be making our kids play COD MW2 on the Xbox on old fashioned 42 inch 2d tv's ?

We play board games a fair bit as a family. Even more so at Chrimbo. Great with a few beers, as it gets funnier and funnier.

Things like "Game of Life", Cluedo Deluxe (it seems a bit easier than regular Cluedo for the kids to grasp),Trivial Pursuits (favourite is the 80's edition), Monopoly, Break the Safe. Even down to the dafter games like Hungry Hippos, Mousetrap and that game with the Elephant trunks (you wear on your head and you have to pick things up) - great when you're hammered.

Yes, they're probably rubbish when comparing to the latest and greatest XBoxPSWii game, but they are great fun with a family

Sure we've got that Colditz game somewhere.

As I have said elsewehere... don't play Diplomacy. It's not a game, it's an argument in a box.

My two haven't been interested in board games for ages now.
Someone bought my daughter a jigsaw once, she got bored very quickly. Me and the other half ended up having great fun, doing the damn thing whilst the kids buggered off to play xbox etc

Sometimes we play our daughters board games (we have twister for xmas which I'm looking forward to once the nipper is in bed ) and my wife absolutely hammers me at downfall and I've never been able to work out how she does it.

I am actually considering myself this for xmas.

Space Hulk | Board Game | BoardGameGeek

Games Workshop recently updated and re-released Space Hulk 2009. But was very limited and really only available on ebay - Amazon have it for £165! But even ebay its about £100.

The sad thing is I want two - one to play and one to keep

Found Heroquest in the loft the other week - my wife and I have been having great fun playing through that again.

I've also started up a board games night with a few mates - lots of food, beer and Risk!
