I'm sitting here watching the outside temp drop steadily... now down to 0.6C and with high pressure, so a clear night - it looks like the forecasts are accurate.
That and the first gritter of the year going down the A52 have me thankful I've got a stock of de-icer on standby

I'm lucky if I get oil pressure in the 205 within 10 secs on a cold morning, never mind anything from the asthmatic mouse heater (which takes 5 miles to blow warm)

Still when she works (and warms up)...

Heated garage (boiler is in there): never drops below 10degreesC
Piston slap, what piston slap? I didn't realise my scoob had it until it was once left outside overnight

All the cars on the driveway are iced up, but the two scoobs are staying put whilst for the workhorses , it is simply a case of full heaters and job's a good'un
. Got to love the fast glass heated windscreens on fords
We only have a few days of ice on cars the whole winter.
When I used to live in Oxfordshire it used to be standard practice from say December to January. I live in West Wales and it really doesn't get THAT cold here.
I have my railway in my loft and its not a proper conversion job. Last night was the first night I had to put the little heater on and even then I had to put it down to one bar.

Very cold and frosty here this morning. I'm currently typing this from the comfort of my bed.
This time last year I'd be out working in it at half 7. Used to leave the house anywhere between 5 and half 6, depending on where the job was. Not going to complain though, as I enjoyed that job.

did 4 hours of road cycling last night (around yorkshire dales)
roads were getting very icy and slippy..... one lad came off and then nearly again.
loads of flooded roads too.
came across a mini on its roof on top of ilkley moor, 3 cop cars, one ambulance.
totally straight section........... must have been giving it some and hit ice....... no other reason really.

I dont use de-icer. Far too tight to buy it, just run the car for a bit to defrost itself.
Surprised me last night, didn't realse it was frosty until I accellerated briskly from a junction and I had to give a bit of opposite lock! The next sweeping corner was fun too!

I'll have to look in Canadian Tire, but I don't recall seeing cans of de-icer on the shelves. I think this is mainly due to the washer fluid being pre-mixed and it'll work to about minus something silly (have a feeling it's minus 15 or minus 20, maybe even colder), thus your fluid doesn't seem to freeze. Granted the blades do freeze to the screen, but a quick whack sorts that out.
I've been out this morning giving the car a quick once over with the scraper, wasn't too bad. We're meant to be getting the first snowfall early next week, so I'm getting the shovel at the ready!

Glad I live out in the country.

I never did see the end of the thread.
Did he decide to get up earlier or just kill cyclists?
I still chuckle about "getting up earlier is NOT an option"
Its +3 here now.
Did hear about it being as low as -10 in the morning in parts of the highlands.
And its only the start of December.

Not a lot of fun for me driving in today - the first FWD drive car I've used in 8 years and it's a whacking great A6 (A4 in for repairs.... grrr...) and the gits didn't lend me a Quattro.
Bloody wheel spins everywhere, I forgot just how much difference there was when you lose the 4WD. Nightmare.
Anyway - -2.5 this morning and I found the de-icer right where it was meant to be. This is akin to getting the Crimble lights out, they aren't tangled and they all work. Not possible.
