Sat Nav recommendations....
Hello,
I'm looking at a SatNav for wife. We had TTN3 on my PDA, so TomTom is the recommended option.
Trouble is I don't know which one!!!
Go 530?
TomTom one XL?
OR a used (refurbished) 720 and update the software.....
Help!!!!
Santos
ps looking to spend around £130.....

Wow - so nobody compared sat navs when buying one????
I know it was FA Cup weekend, but surely there were some people using ScoobyNet!!
I tried looking for a definitive chart of ALL the TomTom satnavs, but one doesn't exist
At this rate, I might have to make one!
ANY ideas guys?

TomTom one or the XL, easiest to operate, one off cost, great little item. Just plug it into the internet every couple of weeks to download the (free) GPS fix, quickens up the satellite location when you turn it on.

Pete,
Save yourself some cash, get one of the these F&H 3.5" Version 3 Sat Nav - UK Maps, Lane Navigation, Postcode Search, TFT flat Touch Screen - ALSO plays MP3 & MP4 - Ebuyer
TomTom can be easily installed on it for <cough> free <cough>

I've a widescreen navman for 130 from halfords- was in a 1/2 price sale. its very good.
whatever you buy- you need one that includes the house no. some just have postcode or street.
didn't make sense to me, but if you think about it, some streets can be miles long.

Rest assured, I am not P1ssy Lewis. Although there is almost a compliment in there.
I AM a ScoobyNet regular (have been around nearly as long as you Dave ) - I've resorted to another name as I am trying to do this research under the radar - a Christmas present for the other half who frequents Scoobynet too
Hence the "skullduggery".....
Thanks for the answers so far - will be looking at TomTom though

I had this issue and ended up doing a comparison chart - not definitive, but pretty close me thinks.
The gist is this though -
The "basic" TomToms have BlueTooth, but not for phones calls etc, and slower processors (266mhz, up to 400mhz) *Most* seem to have an SD card socket. Aside from that, the units can be updated to the latest NavCore 8 (8.3 or 4 iirc) but no news on vers 9 yet as it's only just coming out now.
Then it's down to memory size - from 512 Meg to 4 Gig.
The GO range have Traffic management too.
So, you pays your money etc - depends what you want from a SatNav really.
Have a looky below -
(hopefully won't be too big!)
Hope this helps - imho, just go for a simple GO530 or 540 if it's for a gift. They seem to go on Ebay for around the £140 mark for a x30. £180 ish for a x40.

I've just bought my mum the TomTom XL V2 - UK,ROI & Europe for £140 from Halfords with a random online voucher.
I have a TomTom GO 730, and can't fault it. Bit more than you want to spend though.

Only if they've got the Advanced Lane Guidance option (pretty much any model with IQ, except for the x20 range)
Also, even if you update Navcore software to the latest version, it won't be there (according to the posts on the GPS world forums anyway)

The top update option only refers to x20 owners updating. You CAN update to Navcore 9 on x30 & x40 models.
Sooooo, the only difference between the x40 and the new x50 range (out pretty much now) is the inclusion of Navcore 9.
