Default quickest route question m25 (essex) to m27 (dorset)?

I'll be going over the dartford bridge around 6pm tonight.

Should I get off onto the A3 and get on the A31 and go that way
or
stay on the m25 and go down the m3

M25 on a Friday night, during rush hour <shudders>

All I can say is good luck. If you're completely fcuked off with the M25 by the time you get to the A3 junction then come off there, however if you can bear the extra distance onto the M3 it will probably pay dividends. The A3 will be slower especially round Guildford.

Keep your travel announcements on to listen for any trouble on the M25/M3. How is it people always decide to have crashes on a Friday evening and always on the route I'm travelling on.

Presume you are going clockwise on M25. I would stay on motorways but take a map to duck out just in case you have to avoid some horror tailback. Then M27 when M3 ends. Happy motoring.

Stick with the M3..... but to be honest whichever you choose is going to be a nightmare traffic wise.

no choice about timing i'm afraid. i've done this route 4 or 5 times now and the queues at dartford are a breeze compared to the rubbish drivers in essex.

Guildford can be unpleasant if you catch it wrong. Plus, they started working on the Farnham bypass earlier this week. Caused utter chaos.

On balance, I think the M25/M3 may be a better bet....

I travel to Kent from Southampton a fair bit and never use the M3 if I can help it.
