Orange iPhone
#4
I have had the e-mail too from Orange. I'm with Orange already but out of contract period for a few months. I am considering the Iphone, but wonder if I really need it. Plus, it looks big compared to my Nokia 6301. Is the phone part of the Iphone easy to use or is it compromised?

I think the demand will be quite high for them. The carriers can choose to run a loss on the rental if they wish, so there might be a limited number of lower price tariffs on the cards for some.
Have to say I have been tempted on and off. Just for the sake of it. lol

I suppose it is the little things you take for granted with the Nokia - pressing the call button brings up a list of all the recent calls, pressing the down button goes straight into the contacts. I am guessing these are either missing from the Iphone or not as straightforward to use since it has so many other functions. I probably need to try one in the flesh as it were.

With any change of manufacturer there is always a transitional stage.
Its hard to decide on the spot with things like that.
Im set in my ways though lol. Getting used to the Berry was a nightmare for my tiny brain. But I still have a fallback Nokia (all be it a 5800 touchscreen eew)

Unlike a normal phone, you don't have a keypad, so there isn't the same "press key X down for feature Y: facility. To do what you mention you would (if the phone is sleeping):
* Press the wake button
* Optionally enter your passcode to unlock the phone
* Press the Phone icon in the bottom menu
* For call listings, press the "Recents" button. It will list outgoing and incoming calls. Click on an entry to dial that person back
* For contacts you'd press the "Contacts" button which displays your Address Book. Click on a contact and it will list all info about them, not just a phone number. If you click on a listed phone number it will initiate a call to that person.
Have a look here which gives examples of how use the phone features of the iPhone.
Nothing beats having some hands on time with the iPhone though.

My ex has had both and now has the new BB Curve. She was telling me the iphone is probably the one to go for? The one thing I wasn't sure about was texting or emailing from it since it has touchscreen instead of a physical qwerty keypad like the BB.

Yes such a thing exists mate, its PUSH email
The input is the thing that makes and breaks for most. For me, touch screen is not an option. Clearly for many others, its fine
Very different creatures though. Comparing the 2 is almost pointless lol. Probably better to decide if you want easy input, simple and ease of use, or media, pretty web browsing and touch screen.

If you have lots of friends with them, save using texts and use PING instead

I pay about £0 to 2 a month on a pay monthly Virgin SIM in my Blackberry 8800. £48 over 2 years compared with £720. But I only use the 8800 for calls, the SIM I have doesn't do the Blackberry features and data is a silly price per MB. For just a toy I can't justify the price difference.

However I run multiple phones so it all adds up to that lovely sum.
However last months was a whopping £5
I use my BBM for whoring these days, much cheaper

Nope that tariff is different to the 35 quid one, which is the same as the O2 one and the same price.
As ive said, apple fix the pricing on these pretty good so you will see virtually no difference in tariff charges on voda next year either.
