TV Licence
With the UK being part of the European community, and everyone in the UK has to pay a TV licence fee, do the other countries in the EU have their own version of our TV licence fee?
If not, why not? And if they don't why do we?
And if we don't pay why are we criminalised like s mass murderer?

I think we are unique in having a TV licence.
I also think that, apart from North Korea, we don't have adverts on some of our most watched and listened to channels.
You can't have one without the other!
I just wish that the Beeb would take more risks and not be so populist as it doesn't need the ratings to court advertisers. More Little Dorrit, Question Time, Life and Top Gear rather than Strictly Come Prancing.

it pi***es me right off that i have to pay it, i probably would pay it if given the choice. To me its like Sky making you pay the full package fee even if you don't want the channels your paying for

You don't have to pay it though and all they can do to make you pay it is threaten you with bull and harass you, if everyone refused to pay it they'd be up **** creek without a paddle! Although if we all told 'em to **** off I'm sure the Gov would change the law (as usual when things don't go their way) to make it illegal not to pay, The BBC are the Governments mouthpiece after all! *******!!

*flame suit on*
I actually like the BBC, and the way in which it is funded. It is a breath of fresh air compared to all the ad ridden channels that we have to chose from. Not to mention its online service is extremely good.
Only thing that is not so good is that they appear to be more of a mouthpiece for the government than ever before, especially on climate change issues.

Luminous, i really don't think you need a flame suit at all as the BBC is well funded and is very resourceful for alot of people (infact probably the majority of people) including those who use the their website but for people like me, I pay £130 a year for a couple of episodes of TopGear which if honest are absolutely kack these days.
So really i'd rather by the TopGear boxset at the end of the year, save money and not have the BBC in my life as even the News channel is terrible with awful presenters too.
As for adverts its a played out argument as I have Sky+.

I get what you are saying (although I think you need a not in your second para). It is a little unfair for those who really hate the BBC that they are made to pay for it. Issue is of course that if people had a choice then most people would chose not to pay for it, and then watch it anyway.
I too have Sky+, it is good, although not perfect. You have to remember to record what you want to watch in advance, and then you still have to fast forward. I have noticed that more and more programs suddenly jump back after the adverts without any warning...meaning you have to reverse...or go slower through the adverts (which is what they want).
I just find that all really annoying when you compare it to Anytime TV, where the adverts are perfectly cut out. You know Sky could do that for you, its just they don't want to so they make more

One of the bargains of the multimedia world.
8 episodes of Autumn Watch is worth half the license fee alone.
Lets not forget 5 live too....footy games when I am driving with no annoying ads.
No complaints from me.

I generally feel this to be wrong and rather the ones who wish to wisely look after their pennies complain.
Paying the TV License for me is just like myself going into a phone shop and getting 900minutes and unlimited texts for £30 per month so i can get a flash phone for free. Sure £30 is good for the useage and what you get but when u only make 25minutes of calls a month does it truely represent good value for money?
