Default Stannah Stairlifts

No, not for me.

Has anyone had any experience of one? Are they noisy if you live next door to someone who has one? Are they expensive?

You two keep on, and you'll both be needing a stairlift!

if yuouve paper divinding walls of a modern terrace i can imagine you may hear it next door

My parents are in a bungalow, but they want to move back up here. Because my dad can't manage stairs, their options are restricted to a bungalow (which are hideously expensive and hard to come by around here) or a ground floor warden assisted place. I just thought that maybe a normal house with a stairlift might give them more choice.

Seriously though Splicer, you could make your own with an old Land Rovers winch and a sledge, cheap as chips and much more fun!

They are very expensive for what they are and of little value secondhand.
Have a look on eBay and save a small fortune.
Just get the right track length for the stairs.

Very quiet and if you are handy + know and electrician you can pick them up for a fraction of the cost on flee bay.
You might have to go and remove it mind.

I have a relative with one. They were the only firm that would do his layout of stairs, nice neat job and it's not intrusively noisy. BUT, it has broken down at least three times in the 9 months or so that he's had it. They do come and fix it promptly but so they should given that it being broken means either being stranded upstairs or away from the bathroom! I really hope it was just teething trouble as otherwise it's going to get nasty when the warranty expires.

Thanks for all the info boys.

I have no idea about these things. My dad could have saved himself all this if he'd stopped smoking bleedin' years ago!
