TORIES PLEDGE TO AXE 'SCAMERA' SCHEMES
#2
I listened to Villiers' speech and I can't recall her saying the partnerships were scrapped. She did say that any further fixed cameras were to be justified and funded locally.

Didn't listen to her (but then I've actually heard noone speak so far ... but from here ... Tories oppose charges and speed cameras | Kable it says eh did say it ... though it's not too clear whether she said it at the time (speech) or after talking to journos ...
"... Villiers added the Tories would abolish the partnerships that currently run speed cameras, and make their use more transparent. "That means publishing the information that's now kept secret on each speed camera's record on safety and on fines, so local communities can judge for themselves whether a camera should stay or whether it should go," Villiers said ..."

I wouldn't mind speed $cameras if the money they generated was put to good use; ideally resurfacing all of the abismal and heavily neglected A-roads in my area; And ane when they do it, use some decent tarmac/ashphalt that lasts, not this modern stuff thats good for a couple years before it breaks up or falls into ruts.
After all, I see $cameras as a stupidity tax set to catch out the ones not paying attention (I still hate them though); for that, they do have "some" justification. Its just the whole safety aspect that I deplore.
I'd also like to see them modified so that they also photograph drivers that slow down excessively below the speed limit when conditions don't require it to catch the prudes that slow to 20mph for a 30mph camera with no need. I overtook one silly sod last week who slowed to 15mph within the range of the $camera which is situated on a straight road with no entrances - he went ape at me. Probably thought I was going to trigger it and he'll get the blame.

I like the people who queue for miles next to a bus lane that has timed out -- which then just becomes the inside lane
they are too stupid to look at the sign displaying the valid times
but they sure give me funny looks as I sail by

Perhap's they will re-install the traffic police who used to monitor not only speeding but also those who are untaxed and ininsured with no MOT which is what the speedcams can't do of course if you did not speed while you went past.
Traffic police is by far the best way to monitor the vehicles in all respects.

I've known people straddle both lanes to stop me getting past.

Initially it’s frustrating -- but just imagine going up against one in an interview for a job -- if they can’t read a basic instructional sign
Would they actually get to the interview?
They are in life’s slow lane figuratively and actually!!

Pffft.
[Insert political party not in power] pledge to [insert something that will be popular with a large number of people] if they win the next election!
I've heard it allllll before. They all say whatever it takes to get into power and then do exactly as they like, largely lining their own pockets and feathering their own nests (and duck houses), once they get in. Nearly all politicians are the same, sneaky, lying, greedy, self-important, self-interested slime. No political party can be trusted, whether in power or trying to get there.
I'd like to see all politicians and prospective politicians hooked up to a polygraph machine and interrog...um...interviewed by someone like Paxman. Better still, give them truth serum first! It could be a new reality TV phenomenon.

we all get but fvcked -- the only difference is whether it is a blue **** or a Red **** -- if we are very unlucky we will get split roasted with either a blue or red **** and a rather flacid yellow ****
if you are slightly less well off you will get shafted a bit harder by a blue ****
if you are slightly better off you will get shafted a bit harder by a red ****
if you are gay -- well its a yellow ****
those are the basic rules
