I live in central london and still think an open top tourist bus is an excellent idea
Things i would do
walk along south bank
get a meal and cocktails at cafe pacifico in covent garden
go to the national portrait gallery, tate modern and britain
visit the aquarium
walk round canary wharf
walk around St james' park/buck palace
go to the V&A
Get a burger and shake from tootsies grill in St Christopher's place off oxford street or the eagle bar diner on the corner of oxford st/tottenham court road
(i'll think of some more)

Take a little cruise down the Thames, did this years ago for lunch on one of the boats, very nice afternoon.
St James park is very nice as above.
You could pop into the Piano Bar @ the dorchester now that its fully refurbed (take a fair few quid with you).

another nice walk is the canal system in islington - come out of Angel station and walk along the sheltered walkway, down the steps and take the next right down Duncan Street. At the end you can get down to the canal (the walk to this point is like 5 minutes)

Hi mate
No tourist ideas but there is a fantastic little Italian round the corner from your hotel (I think it is called the The Lucky Spot). You could also head down towards Shepherd Market (bottom of Park Lane and Piccadilly).
Enjoy.

Its easy to spend a full day in London..
1/2 the day scraping dog sh!te off your shoes and the rest trying to avoid scrounging immigrant beggars..
Serously, there is some nice places and things to see....Natural history museum is awesome and the tate modern is a gret place to visit if its your kinda thing.

Do one of those open top bus things too. Pay for a ticket, and use it as a taxi service as well, i.e. drop off at different location, look around, then get back on to another one.

My favourite London museums (in no particular order):
- The natural history museum.
- The science museum.
- The national maritime museum. (Greenwich)
- The royal observatory.
A couple of other ideas that I don't think have been mentioned yet:
- Take a wander down Gerrard Street (china town) on your way over to Covent Garden market or pass through Leicester square.
- The Trocadero at Picadilly circus is always good to kill some time.
- Take the mrs window shopping along Bond street and Burlington arcade.
Top tips:
Take a mini AtoZ with you (I always do).
Don't even make eye contact with beggars.
Wear comfy shoes, you will probably walk miles.
Walking (if you know where you're going) is often easier than taking a tube over short distances.

Its a hell of a lot nicer than being stuck on the tube all day.
Oh and if you are looking for a drink during the day and dont want to pay extortionate prices, dont be affraid of looking just off the main roads for traditional pubs - there are quite a few dotted around and they wont pull your pants down for a pint of beer.

Def do the london eye, book a champayne flight, which is nice, only one glass of champas but you by pass all the queing. Convent garden is also good, few beers and street entertainers.

I found the London Eye a let down. Was really looking forward to it, but once on board, thought it was okay, but dull.
Obviously its best on a sunny day, but .............. dull

I agree with all the above.
Be prepared for a shock with regards to open top bus, or maybe I'm just a miserable old sod.
Anyway, for Myself, wife, son and 10 year old daughter - £75 and that was with him giving me some discount!
Ripleys believe it or not is worth a punt too.
Harrods for people watching
London eye as above is probably a bit of a letdown - big queues and nothing really happens if you see what I mean.
If you like Indian food and are close to here then its worth the trip - not cheap though.
Bombay Palace Restaurant, Takeaway & Delivery - 50 Connaught Street London W2 2AA - offering take-away - home dining, delivery service, outside catering and events.
