Default I hate importing stuff

Bought an item from japan,he declared it as gift etc,it cost me £55 which was about $80 i think.

parcel force say i owe £22 on it.

im guessing £13 for thier trouble but what can the other £9 ??

as a gift the charge is over £36 and even at the lower £18 charges dont come to £9

i dont have a letter breaking it down yet, just been told over the phone i owe £22 on it

its now cost me £7 more than if i bought it here

ah well, live n learn again and again and again

I just picked a parcel up today that I paid £24 delivered from the USA, I had to pay royal mail £11.55 for it today Thats nearly half of what I paid for it and it wouldn't be so bad but no one in this country sells it ???

Yeah the gift allowance for the UK is low as hell. Anything over that you will get hammered on.
The word "gift" to international carriers and customs etc translates to "internet purchase trying to avoid taxes"

Putting gift on it has very little baring on it at all.

2 things DO

1/ Your luck, if the package is picked
2/ How much the seller ships. If they sell hundreds of items, everything they send will get flagged and pulled.

You'll have had to pay VAT and Import Duty.I got caught importing car parts from Japan once, still cheaper at the time than buying the items here.

the extra money was for the food for her, it's along way from Japan and on a slow boat too

you should of made sure she had enough rice to last the journey

it will be for vat and or duty and also use of the their deferment account,

ie them laying ti out on your behalf,

the vat and or duty go's to pay for the running of the country building schools and hopsitals, you know the sort of things most of us use every day.

lol my mate and his missus bought all their snowboard gear in the USA, as did I.
Sadly the person who sent all theirs left all the invoices with the way bill, and got hit for almost £300 duties and taxes. It was also all sent in over sized packaging so even with my discount it was still about £150 shipping.

Mine on the other hand, same value as theirs, just sent in the snowboard bag, paperwork done properly... £35 shipping, no duties haha. $2200 worth
