A dog took a disliking to my car yesterday,
and started chasing it down the road barking etc, as it was chasing my car it got knocked down by another car and i really couldn't be ****ed stopping to check if a dirty, street urchin dog that looked quite nasty was ok.
Should i feel bad about it? I don't but my conscience is telling me i really should but if the owner allows it the roam the streets without restraint why should i?

Whilst I agree with the above, if said stupid dog is knocked down by YOUR car, expect damage
My eldest hit a cat which ran out in front of him, killed it stone dead, but it cracked his splitter on his IBIZA Less than 30mph........
Ended up costing him over £100.

Is there no way of claiming off the owner? As i'd say the car that knocked it down would have got frontal damage as they were travelling around 30mph as the dog was massive!

Not at all. I had a similar experience, the dog lost. Ducks, dogs, cats, stotes, anything small, hit it. Swerve, as many do, can cause a bigger problem. I've had to take a deer on the front before, big damage, but compared to running into an on-coming car, no question, the deer took the hit!

if they had pet insurance policies these days usually involve some kind of public liability, but as it was roaming I would say no pet insurance was on the dog, and the policy probably wouldnt pay as the dog wasnt under control

years ago my brother borrowed my fiesta he totalled hit by hitting a sheep made a proper mess off my car cost him a small fortune he reported it and was fined from the farmer

Hitting a dog is the same as hitting a child. You can be done if you leave the scene of the accident. Cats for some reason don't come under this law and you can knock them down all day if you feel like it. Lol
Anyway, since it wasn't you who hit the dog I wouldn't worry about it. You don't need to do anything.

Years ago there was a guy local to me with a Sapphire Cosworth...back when they were new. He hit a sheep on a local 2 mile straight quite late at night and sadly passed away, although his girlfriend who had been with him at the time survived. The speedo was apparently stuck at around 120mph. Not sure how much truth there is in that...but that's the story that was going about.

so..in the Grand order of things, dog takes umbridge(sp) to your car.. gives it large.. divine intervention/call-it-what-you-will takes the dog out.. maybe someone/something up there likes your car?

A neighbours cat came into my house once and my dog tried to kill it. It ran up my wooden french doors and ruined the wood. I couldnt get nothing done as cats are classed as wild animals i think
You dont have to report killing a cat if you run it over but you do a dog

Some of the comments on this thread on running over cats just makes me sick. They are someones pet that they have looked after and loved the same as any dog.
I dont like dogs, but I would try and avoid running over one if it came on to the road in front of me because I respect the fact that someone will feel pretty bloody awful if someone runs over it.

it's up to you if you feel bad about it, if it were me, then i would be upset about ANY animal suffering, whether i was directly involved or not, and would do what i could to help it, but hey, that's just me, some people are different or should i say indifferent and really don't care as long as it doesn't affect them, and will happily turn a blind eye. cest la vie.

After dropping my friend off in a rather unsavoury part of Sunderland, I was on my way home. As I was driving along the road a sea gull being chased by about 3 German Shepard's ran out in front of me.
First time I have ever had to do an emergency stop, scared the crap out of me. Couldn't see anybody around so god only knows where the dogs came from. I didn't stick around to find out, not the kind of place you want to hang around.

I don't think he was saying that he goes out of the way to run over stray dogs, just not to be overly concerned about such things. */ (I mean stray dogs specifically)Then again, running a human over repeatedly for doing so wouldn't be odd at all
*Every time I run something over that could be a pet, I stop and check etc. in case any animal rights peeps get all weird about things, pmsl!
