Eastbourne airshow pics
I went on Saturday and for a free 4 hour show it was bloody fantastic. I thought i'd post a few pics.
The Red Arrows did near on half an hour but the highlight for me was the Lancaster with Spitfire and Hurricane, followed by the Typhoon (known as the Bat plane to my 4 year old) and the Spitfire and Dutch F16 in orange that flew together looking very impressive.
The best noise should have been the Spitfire but I have to admit the howl from the Mustang was incredible as it swooped down. The best manouvre was the Typhoon standing it up whilst literally hovering

Great pictures.
Saturday was good for cloud cieling as the Red Arrows were able to do the full height show, but they were down to 8. Full 9 for the rest of the days though, even if it was the low-level show

Beautiful, well done. I've never seen a picture of a trail from a rotating propellor like the one you took of the Hurricane before.

Thanks for the comments. I'm no expert with a camera, I haven't even opened the manual yet so I just point and shoot on what ever auto mode I guess is right at the time and hope for the best. They are all taken on 10mp so come out huge so had to crop massively or just resize.
I posted the pics up to share as I know there are a few plane enthusiasts on here and to see 1 of only 2 remaining air worthy Lancasters flying was a privilege for me especially to have a Hurricane and Spitfire along side. Was worth the trip down there just for that.
What i'd give to have a go in that 2 seater Spitfire!
The noise from the Typhoon was stunning although not for my kids as it made them scream and even made the dog look round to see what the hell it was

Outstanding pictures, thanks for all those. It is always difficult to get the light right with ground to air pics but you got it spot on.
Fascinating to see how the leading edge flaps operate in conjunction with the canard surfaces in the aileron mode on the Typhoon. Not surprised you children were not happy at the noise it makes.

Fantastic pics! You must have a great quality camera to get such good close-ups!
Looks like it was a great airshow as low - loving the Hurricane shot with the vortices coming off the propeller!

Thanks again for the comments, the camera is Canon's entry level DSLR so nothing flash, a 1000D with a 55-250mm zoom lens. I took over 800 pics lol, a lot were with burst mode so I could pick the good ones and get rid of the rubbish. Ended up with 389 pics after getting rid of duplicates and blurs and ones I didn't like.
XRS do you know why the Red Arrows were down to 8 for Saturday's show? I really hope this was not the last year for the show due to funding issues as I want to go back next year now.

The contrails from the prop shot is stunning..
I,d be tempted to submit that pic for publication...
The mustang makes a stunning sound, when it goes into a dive
we get them around Goodwood, along with a few Spitfires

Loving the Hurrican shot, along with everybody else
That Dutch F16 is absolutely stunning

I went down to the sea front to watch on Saturday, so didn't hear the commentary. No idea why they were down to 8, but they were back to 9 by Sunday.

Nice shots
Quick tip: try a slower shutter speed for the prop planes... it'll allow a bit of blur to show in the prop, just makes the photos look a little more "dynamic" than with a frozen prop.

Cheers for the comments. John thanks for the tip, I had it on automatic and sports mode so I assume it probably has a fast shutter speed for sports mode. If I had done any of the shots manually they all would have been out of focus and blurred as I haven't read the manual yet - all too easy to forget the manual and stick it on one of the auto modes! I need to read the manual and then go out and practice with the different settings on manual and actually learn how to take decent shots.
