Well amazed ive not found another thread on this, but its a sad day, he had alot to teach us about the war to end all wars, shame it didnt and he went through the horrors of trench warfear (or is that warfare), so one final salute to our last WW1 veteran

I'll tip my hat into this thread too. It is people like him that gave us our freedom. I only wish I could be proud of where that hard fought freedom has brought us today. Maybe we still can turn things around so that not only are we proud of what he did, but he too will be proud of what we did with the freedom his and others gave us.

Despite the fact that he was a soldier, the awful nature of the conflict he was in lead him to believe quite rightly that war is an evil occurrence and should be avoided if possible.
Wars are rarely started by a population but more likely by world leaders and often for their own selfish reasons.
A country should always have its own defence force of course, but going to war for no good reason as far as that country is concerned is a shameful act.
