Default Dog Proof Cat feeder?

well now the dog and cat are happily living together, another issue has emerged, it seems the dog likes cat food!! lol

so much so no matter where we put the cat's food bowls he gets to it, and the cat isnt getting much food at all.

anyone know where I can get a dog proof cat feeder from?

cheers in advance

Can't see why you don't just put cat food on worktop or middle of large table where dog can't reach? Or in sink?

We partitioned off part of our porch using a baby gate so the dog cant get at the cats food. The cat flap also opens into this area, so the cats can come and go as they want, and have their own secure area where the dog cant annoy them.

Something like this is about the only way as unlike dogs, lots of cats wont eat all their food at once, so you cant just put it down somewhere and wait for them to finish.

he can jump our baby gate unfortunatly. I have found one which is in america typically. its a small box with an opening lid with access from underneath and the food bowls are inside in holes perfectly cut for the bowls, I like this, but the dog is so strong and head strong hes likely to try and flip it over, however I cant think of a better way, so im going to see if someone can build me one unless I can come up with a better idea.

Sounds like your dog could make his own feeder:

Sounds like your dog in completely untrained if he is allowed to jump up to reach worktops and jumps over baby gates. Does he jump up and knock visitors over as well? Why do you have a baby gate then?

I can't believe you don't have a windowsill or similar that dog can't reach. Or feed the damn cat in a room with the door closed. It's not going to eat anyway if there is a large dog trying to get to its food. dl

im a bit busy being sick! plus hes well trained. he dosent knock over visitors, funnily enough when you own a rottweiler you dont get that many home visits though

the problem isnt there when we are in the house, its when they are left alone in the day when we are both at work, its just become apparant with me being at home that he steals the cats food.

thanks for the usual helpful reply though david

I don't know if this would be any good for you........I'm not sure whether the cat would have to have something on it's collar so that it only opens for him/her, or whether it opens whenever there's movement near it. Might be worth ringing and asking.

Close off a room and put a cat flap in the door so the cat can get in, (and has somewhere away from the dog), but the dog can't, and leave the cat's food in there?

If the dog is willing to take out an interior door to get at the cat food, you have a real problem!

we have thought about that turbokitty, we have a little space with a door under the stairs, but we were worried it would end up making it stink.

it looks as though the infra red one just opens when the animal is near, I think he would still get his nose in there I will email them though just in case

*****,

Simple mate - train the cat to eat at certain times and don't leave the bowl down. Cat food can be extremely rich for dogs, and some types can cause long term health problems in dogs if too much is eaten. At the very least, he'll get fat.

A proper Rottie would have left the food and eaten the cat ages ago.

Our little fart Yorkie Poo was hillarious today, got chased by a massive Labradoodle and Labrador playing, too small too fast for either to catch him, I swear the little sod got the Doodle to chase him as the Labrador was having time out being a bit tubby, he got the other one to chase him, full pelt and dodged left at the last moment crashing the Labradoodle into the Labrador.

Shock headline - Dogs eat cat food !

Seriously.... feed the cat a small amount so it clears the bowl. Then feed again later, simples.

dunx

P.S. Don't feed the meerkats.... EVER !
