Default Vulcan flew over the house today :D

About 4.55 pm Saturday sounding like thunder

The house is a couple of miles west of Crosby-on-Eden airfield (Carlisle), not taken off from the airfield I guess but just a low pass.

Any Idea's where it's been today, Sunderland Airshow??

Cheers

Shaun

PS also in the area have been a PRU spitfire with D Day stripes and what looked to me like a P47 Thunderbolt !

The WYIOC were at Blyton today and I spotted it circling to the south (base ?) then it flew past heading north, the young'uns were gobsmacked at the size of the thing.

I remember it going straight up at Kirmington airshow a few years back, that cleared the ear wax !

LOL

There has been all sorts flying by today. The noise has been incredible
We have no need to go to the air show, we get on the roof of our extension and can see them all. Most fly over our house at some point.

The most awesome thing I ever saw was the Stealth Bomber a few years ago. That was truly amazing

I believe it made an appearance at Sunderland air show.

I would normally be sitting out in the garden watching them fly over, but been stuck in bed ill all day.

Wonder if it will come back tomorrow il keep an eye out, i would especially like to see the vulcan in flight.

Where are you Lee?

I didn't see the Stealth Bomber today. Hope it's doing the rounds tomorrow.

Get well soon

it wouldn't be very Stealthy if you saw it

Didn't think you would see them that far in land. I'm in Yyhope right on the coast so see them on approach to Roker.

Have you seen the vulcan in Washington Lee near nissan ?

Found some pics some one from the Sunderland forum took of it

Am right by the river, outskirts of Washington. They fly over us and the A1231 on their way to the show.

Tomorrow, we should be able to see a few of the displays from our garden, not if they decide to fly low, obviously

(Oi, you changed your comment )

You know, I often walk the dog that way but have not visited it for ages

Changed it to edit the pics, they seemed a little large to in bed.

Its a Shame about that vulcan just sitting there rotting away.

On the other hand i suppose it gives people a chance to get up close and have a decent look.

Flew right over my house, paralleling the Trent, going north.

Strange thing was, as soon as I heard it, I KNEW what it was.........they were so common over Lincolnshire at one time

Excellent pics.

I may take a look over there in the next few days. It seems to be swamped by Nissan, now

Big iron triangle at 500 feet

Just wondered why it should buzz our local airport though LOL

I knew about the windermere show but nothing about a passing Vulcan

Isn't there a static Vulcan parked at Carlisle? I had to go there to assess whether it was safe to land one there when they were taken out of service.

Yeah there is Les, at Carlisle Airport which is near where Shaun lives, there's a bloke who comes in our Post Office that owns or has a share in it. I've had a sit in it when i was a kid

I've been up in the cockpit of the Vulcan at Carlisle airport It's got no raid symbols or refuelling probe so I guess it's not one of the Black Buck jobbies.

There's also a Phantom, Lightning and some other bits and pieces.

A bit of a thread hijack, does anyone know what the Lanc' has been up to today? It's been over my house near Epsom, Surrey twice now. The first time it must have only been a few hundred feet up! It was beautifully low, and had me jumping off the sofa during the Grand Prix.

It was a nice surprise as well. We're under the Gatwick flightpath, so we unfortunately only ever see commercial planes flying over here.

The Vulcan performed at Sunderland, Windermere and East Fortune on Sat! Must be making up for lost time!!!

I saw it at East Fortune, wonderful piece of kit, although the Hawker Hunter was probably the best display in terms of noise, speed and sheer exhuberence!

I was reading up on the Vulcan recently and didn't realise that after it entered service, it did a bit of a round-the-world tour, which culminated with it landing at Heathrow, however the weather was poor and it crash landed. The pilot and co-pilot ejected, but the rear crew did not have ejector seats, so were killed in the accident

That was a tragic accident that should never have happened. The big chief on board wanted to land at Heathrow so that he got all the publicity etc and they decided to make the approach in very bad weather. They hit the ground short of the runway and bounced back up. The pilots ejected but there was no chance for the rest in the aircraft.

The Phantom was a gate guardian at 14MU Havn't you left Carlisle yet LOL

Les

Just a quick question........Sunderland is about 80 miles from me, the Vulcan went over quite low. Did the display pilot just not bother to waste fuel climbing and continued to fly around at display height while going cross country to these events ??

Cheers
