Massa's accident.
Nasty and he was a lucky boy especially after young Surtees last week.
However where did the metal come from? Rubens was nowhere in site, yet this metal was bouncing down the circuit?

BBC SPORT | Motorsport | Formula 1 | Massa crashes in Hungary qualifying
That looked nasty! Almost knocked him out from the look of things, or at least gave him a hell of a shock and made him miss the chicane and only just start braking before chasing into the barriers.
If he doesn't make the race tomorrow, who is Ferrari's reserve driver?

autosport.com - F1 News: Massa suffers skull damage, concussion
Seems he defo isnt going to be making tomorrow race...
Luca Badoa is the reserve driver apparently, so we'll be seeing him line up 10th.
Edit Marc Gene is the second reserve driver, so guess he is more likely to take part in the race as Badoer hasn't raced for 10 years. -

Looks like what was reported, a skull injury ( you can see the impact his helmet took! ) and a cut above the eye.
It would be nice if the hospital put out a statement to quell all this speculation.

Isn`t it time for a toughened perspex type cover/roof to go over the cockpit ?
Surely they have the technology these days to be able to make one of these where rain doesn`t stay on its surface, like a powerful small blower on the front of the screen area.

Bloody hell
I stayed up to watch the quali last night and it all looked well for Massa, woke up this morning to hear he has a fracture to the base of his skull and his left side forehead !!!
I dont want to speculate but I wonder if the fracture to the base of the skull was the impact of the accident as his head really shot forward, hans device probably has it's limitations.
Wish him well but wonder if we'll ever see him race it this level again, broken legs and the like are one thing but head injuries, especially of this severity are something else, I cant see him wanting to come back to be honest. A sad day for F1

If it was from Barichello's car, how on earth was he able to keep driving? Surely one side of the car would have collapsed completely
The suspension on F1 cars is all mounted inboard, surely the whole damper assembly must have broken in order for the spring to break free like that? Seems to me Rubens himself had a lucky escape
