Unhappy This is sad and wrong in so many ways

8 year girl who was raped is abandoned by her family

For the girl unimaginable trauma has been compounded exponentially by the behaviour of her family. So sad in for everyone involved.

Whatever "belief system" the parents have, their abandonment of that poor child is disgraceful. They should be taken to task by the law!

Religious beliefs are no excuse for a basic lack of humanity.

Death is not good enough for these excuses of humans.

I think you mean 'you are' or 'you're'

So only muslims commit atrocities? Or abandon or mistreat their children?

Absolutely agree, but who's law? In this case, US or, allegedly, Sharia?

DS:
Of course other belief systems have their problems but if you deny this sort of behaviour doesn't smack of Islam, albeit fundamental perhaps, then you are the wearer of rose tinted eye wear.

Well said that man!

Some things transcend any religious conviction and basic humanity and empathy/compassion for other human beings -especially a child who has gone through something so horrific- is one of those things.

I thought such values were supposed to be a cornerstone of all faiths?

Shiocking story......

I hope that the girl is fostered by some people who will love and care for her properly as her........ 'family' do not seem very well equipped to do the job.

The "youths" involved in the attack need to be 'castrated' and given a good kicking.

I don't believe there is any mainstream religion that would, at its heart, condone or suggest what the parents did is correct.

Of course there are many that choose to misinterpret the core teaching to their own ends; the Taliban, of course, but I would also include some purporting to be Christian.

Uneducated pig-ignorant Liberians are just cannon fodder for brain washing by fundamentalists.

Poor girl but I hope the American public will ensure that she gets a decent life from now on.

No it doesn't She's their daughter ffs. She's had the WORST trauma that a girl can have at EIGHT years old and they abandon her because THEY are ashamed? SCUM
The USA should kick THEM out and allow the girl to stay............mind if they did, Gordon's barmy army would accept the family like a shot

Liberia, what a toilet of a place.

Boys aged 9-14

Chances are a daily occurrence in Liberia, women's value around the same as cattle.

Poor girl...

They have abandoned their child in her time of need after a dreadful experience. I would have thought there are good enough reasons there for prosecution.

I would be very surprised if their religion dictated such a shameful way to treat your own child.

So would I but it doesn't mean that they haven't used religion as the reason. It has been used as a reason/excuse for many a thing and no doubt will continue to.

Simple. Deport the family, minus the girl. Deport the boys families. Inform the rest of the prison population as to what the boys did, and let the inmates solve that problem. Rehome the girl, in a state as far from redneck territory as possible.

Lots of rose tinting going on here.

Fact is, in extreme poverty, a daughter, will be a money cow as she can be put to "work" ie. prostitution at the earliest opportunity, this is very young.

A son, will have a limb cut off so he can beg....

Don't forget that USA may now have some guest rooms at Guantanamo which might be suitable? dl

Yes you are right, it happens all the time these days and is done by people for their own selfish purposes.

You can't blame the religion for it though!

Who kills their own women for "dishonouring" a family?

Who lashes women for wearing trousers?

Who made someone drink sulphuric acid in the name of "dishonouring" a family

who still regularly stone women in public?

who gets a truck to drive over a 5 year olds left arm just cos he stole an apple

I cant think of any other religion that does such backwards draconian stuff, can you?

Interesting article from The Arizona Republic today:

Liberian father says doctor told him his daughter wasn't raped

Excerpt:
The father of the 8-year-old girl whom Phoenix police say was sexually assaulted at an apartment complex said Sunday that doctors initially told him that his daughter had not been attacked.
The father, a Liberian refugee, also said he never told officers to take his daughter away because the sexual assault brought shame upon his family.
"I brought her here," he said of his daughter who, along with the family, journeyed from Africa to west Phoenix in 2004. "I need her back."

Liberian father says doctor told him his daughter wasn't raped
