Why do you want to rid the place of spiders?
They do a lot of good around the house, they kill loads of mites, worms and other creepy crawlies that can cause damage to your house/carpet/health.
If they really bug you, the only way I can think of is to fumigate the entire house, which is both expensive and requires everything to be covered in dust sheets etc

I hate 'em and am terrified of them, no matter how small. Buy some 'Vapona's (fly killer things stocked in all supermarkets) and keep one in the rooms affected, leave the doors shut overnight and say bye bye spiders Don't worry about all the other little bugs running wild 'cos the spiders aren't there to eat them 'cos they'll be dead as well
I don't think Vapona advertise the fact that they kill spiders 'cos some people don't like it but they do, very successfully

Leave the poor lil spiders alone. Do some research and find out exactly what type they are, and you will find that they can be beneficial. The UK doesn't have spiders (I'm assuming you're in the UK) that are dangerous anyway. I used to have a taranchula (spelling) that used to sit on my door handle at home in Sydney. Never hurt me once. NO - I'm not odd, just love nature!!!

Look after the little fellers, If it wasn't for them you'd have a house full of wasps, flies, termites and other actual nasties, instead of a bunch of cool guys who get some bad press.
Added advantage, they keep the wife & kids out of the garage, always a plus.

Also 6ft4 20 errrrr something stone and hate the little things. Slowly learning not to squash them into the carpet
Our pet Rat likes spiders and other insects.
We do have the most poisonous spiders in the UK. BUT the mandables etc are not strong enough to break through our skin.
Watched a program about the dangers on the Neighbours set...All I can say is, I AM NOT GOING TO AUS.

Is it about a foot long, brownish sandy coloured and squeals when you try to hit it? Does it run pretty fast ( ~30 mph) and has a habbit of wanting to land on your face? If it is, its probably just a domesticated camel spider.
Hint ~ Wear a face mask when you go to sleep. Legend has it that its chewed off a US marines face while he was sleeping during desert storm. The anesthetic was soo good that he didn't realised that he had his "face-off" until someone else saw him....

Hmm this reminds me of a few years back when I was living in an old flat. I got up one morning with a terrible hangover and went into the kitchen and got myself a bowl and spoon I opened the cupboard and got the box of cereal out, I filled up the bowl with said cereal then added milk from the fridge.
I sat down in front of the telly and ate about 5 mouthfuls then I looked down into the bowl and thought that I saw the cereal move! I put this down to being hung over and stuck the spoon back in to get some more cereal. When I was about to put the next spoonful into my mouth I looked at the spoon and WTF!!!!!
I saw a Fecking SPIDER doing the Breast stroke in the bloody milk! So I dump the Spoon back into the Bowl and fold the cereal over and see about 8 of the hairy ******* all wriggling about. At this point I just wailed and dropped the Bowl in shock
Needless to say I have not eaten this brand of cereal since and strangely enough have a dislike for spiders

We have 2 cats....
One (real moggie) loves to play with, then eat the spiders..... sometimes prefers them to his dinner.
Other one (still moggie, but a little more pure-breed) just gives them a look, then a little tap with his paw, then deems that it is all beneath him and lets the other just get on with it.

spider and wasps, death to them both. Can of deodorant and a lighter is very effective in both cases. We have allready had two wasps in the house this year. Granted, one appeared to be dead but the other was very much alive. I found it buzzing round inside a spherical, paper lamp shade. It was oviously wise to my deodorant and lighter policy After much panic I decided the only solution was to shoot it, so I went and got me air pistols. Putting the gun up against the outside of the shade, where the wasp had decided to take a rest, I sqeesed the trigger. The little b4stard never new what hit him This had to be a well aimed shot, the potential for disaster was huge. The last thing that I wanted to do was miss the wasp and hit the bulb! Angry wasp, dark room, broken glass on floor, tattered lamp shade with plenty of escape routes for Mr Wasp aarrggggghhhh
