Rare undated 20p coin on eBay (end time 03-Aug-09 17:59:56 BST)

 

Not 20p related - even more rare.

A friend of mine owns an off licence in Hitchin. A customer came in and bought a single can but paid with 99p with one pence pieces. The pennies were all shiny, but silver, but he accepted them.

He thought they were weird so put them to one side and contacted the royal mint and sent a pic of one. They replied, saying they were never released as currency as they were trial pennies that had been rejected as they looked too much like 5p pieces.

He then contacted a coin specialist that offered him £300 per coin.

Sold for just shy of £30k. Nice bit of business. He's not seen the can buyer since.

He was so delighted with his luck that he randomly gave me a crate of stella, as I told him I was moving away from the area!

Mad dog you gave me killed a fox last Thursday, BTW.... And a squirrel yesterday! He's developed into a precise killing machine!

 

I give up looking for one, found something even better!

I personally would rather have a gold undated 20p !

There's a guy on there trying to sell undated 'tail side' coins and he also has an undated head side one, but it's so obviously an old one in the pic!!!

Needless to say, none of them have sold
