Ideas for a relaxing holiday
Hi all,
Gonna take a much earned break in Aug. I need some suggestions on places to go: Here are the requirements/preferences
- Outside the UK!
- Somewhere relaxing, or at least with the option to relax; bit of pampering would be nice e.g. luxury hotel, spa facilities etc..
- Decent facilities amenities - I want to relax, but don't want to be bored s*itless after three days!
- Somewhere picturesque, hot and with chances to see and interact with the local wildlife.
- Somewhere that isn't going to be over-run with kids!!!!!!
- Somewhere that doesn't require a load of hassle with visas etc, as I will be booking late.
I was thinking along the lines of the Maldives, or Grand Canaria. Quite fancy getting open water certified in Scuba diving and swimming with rays etc...
Open to suggestions though.
I wouldn't say the sky's the limit budget wise: but I'm not expecting a £399 Thompson special!
Cheers for any advice offered!

Found Gran Canaria a bit odd. Prefer Lanzarote - but the "unknown" parts rather than the tourist magnets.
This place is pretty nice - we only ate there but it was enough to know it's a good un.
finca malvasia - Stylish boutique self-catering apartments, guesthouse, bed and breakfast in Lanzarote

Maldives was great, but more a winter destination IMHO since you can get the temperatures much closer to home in the summer, and the monsoon is less favourable IIRC. Each island is a resort, and you are captive for their expensive dining. Luxurious, yes. Would have gone back again if the dollar wasn't so strong earlier in the year.
Good for diving it seems, with many islands having excellent facilities, but all we did was snorkelling.

Maldives get good surf but I know of at least three different sets of people who have been caught out by early/late monsoons, had cack surf and poor weather. A bit of a pain when you've shelled out a few grand. I wouldn't risk it.

Bit of a wildcard, but I'm just back from Lake Garda, ticks pretty much all of your boxes. Not super hot, being Northern Italy, but plenty of luxury, scenery and relaxation to be had.
