What's the best way to do it?

Wife is pregnant and has several complications which I won't go into but is struggling at work (Nurse - Long Shifts etc)

Everyone is saying she should get herself signed off before her maternity leave starts, not sure how to go about it.

Would you ask the Doctor?
Lay it on thick etc

If there are things likely to cause complications the GP should sign her off anyway. No need to lay it on.

You can do a week on your own self cert but yeah, see your GP, explain.
My mrs has had to be signed off on a few occasions, couple of times for months, and the doctors have all been sound, they've looked and made the call based on "fit for work". Sometimes they've offered straight away, sometimes the make suggestions and review in a few days.

I'm sure they see a lot of chancers, best to be straight up and go from there.

We have just had a baby and my mrs left work a month before the due date. I'm sure there was an option to take maternity leave upto 3 months ealier.

She was going to leave at least 6 weeks before the due date, but is 16 weeks before now. Don't want to take maternity leave yet as she'll have to go back to work earlier.

She got sent home from work last night and has got a doctors appointment tomorrow - Fingers crossed.

If she isn't fit to work, or continuing would carry any risk, I'm sure the doctor will appreciate that, and sign her off. She shouldn't need to lay it on, just be honest about how she is feeling.

Has she not got any holiday entitlement left, that she could take as well?
