Default Toastie maker plates

Me and Nat have a Breville vst004 toastie maker, good little device, but the removeable plates are buggered - ie not non stick. Probably just wear and tear.

But looking on Ebay (and Google), I can't find anywhere that does replacement plates.

Anyone know anywhere that does do them? I can't really afford £20-30 on another toastie maker, and it is just the plates which need replacing.

TIA

Doesn't greasing them make them non-stick?

Tried the Breville website?

Tried this, the grease, spray on oil merely evaporates and the bread (even buttered on the outside) sticks like a bitch when opening it back up.

I like having the toastie maker as it beats cold sarnies all the time...

Have you tried a bit of greaseproof paper - put it round the sandwich before you put it in the toastie maker

Thought of this, but because the plates have triangle indentations to shape the bread, it would get cut up. If you saw the shape of it, you'd see what I mean

Squished cheese and ham everywhere

Paul, good idea, but I'm worried a used one with have the same issue.

I'm tempted to buy an uber cheapo Cookworks one for like £5 and buy one every 6 months or whatever. Have emailed Breville (no pslewis threats however, sorry) to ask if it's a common problem and where to buy plates from.

Just got the following back from Breville via email...

"Good Morning,

The fat used on the plates as mentioned below should be full fat butter as otherwise the plates can start to peel
Or bubble.

In regards to the replacement plates. This can be purchased directly from us. To order this, you need to send a cheque or a postal order for £12.92 made payable to Pulse Home Products Ltd and send it to the following address:

Pulse Home Products Ltd
Vine Mill
Middleton Rd
Royton
Oldham
OL2 5LN

You will need to quote the model number of your appliance when you send in your order.

With Regards
Customer Services"

Hmm... may be easier to buy a cheapo toastie maker instead.

i hate those toasted sandwich makers,
they just make to much mess, and are too ahrd to clean,
no matter what you put in them they always seem to spill out,

too hot to touch when they are hot, and you dont want to get them too wet with the electrics.
they always struck me as a stupid invention,
toastbags are ok though
