Default Northern Lights.

Just been watching it from my house,amazing too see.

Looking out of my window now it seems very bright on the horizon.

I managed to get some pics,but Photobucket wont host them....Any other sites i can use.

Snazy,only the second time i have seen them,and i have a bit light pollution.Very cool to watch.

I cant get a great view as some cloud is obsurring the view but its weird seeing a part of the sky looking light at this time.

We used to see them when we were flying across the Atlantic. Beautiful sight and it helped the time to pass. Sometimes when they were extra powerful it used to look as though they might envelope the aircraft and that could be a bit of a worry then.

It wasn't the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) since the Sun is deep in a period of inactivity at the moment.

However, just when the Sun is very quiet there is another phenomenon involving very high clouds at night - pictures here:

Is that what people saw ?

It remained light in a portion of the sky from sunset to sunrise.
I couldn't believe how light it was at midnight.

The Northern lights are an almost organic thing, as the electrons writhe and twist as they enter the atmosphere.

Only seen three very good displays, thanks to being a dog walker.... usually in winter from 6PM onwards.

Sometimes visible as a red or green glow in the night sky.

Science Geek ? YES !
