Is this the future of tyre technology???
These tyres are airless and are scheduled to be out on the market very soon.
Just think of the impact on existing technology:
- no more air valves...
- no more air compressors at gas stations...
- no more repair kits...
- no more flats...
These are actual pictures taken in the South Carolina plant of Michelin.

Like Semper says, pretty old idea now. Good one, but expensive.
One of the biggest issues was traditional tyre shops would not be able to fit them. It would almost be a factory thing,

The Tweel. This has been around a good while now. Yes, the production ones were to have sidewalls and look normal, these shots were PR ony.
The idea has been canned though afaik, because the wheel and "tyre" are an integrated unit, the range of various sizes and wheel fitments would be simply boggling and too much for manufacturers and retailers to stock or reasonably cope with. Seemingly increased road noise was an issue too, and if it does fail, its a catastrophic mess rather than a simple burst tyre.
Not exactly cheap to replace when they wear out too. Granted you save money by not having punctures, but punctures are hardly common occurances - I certainly havent had one for a good few years now.
