Anything that keep the electric bill down.

And thats the ONLY reason why we have CFLs and LED light bulbs in our house.

Sounds like a major result if it's true... no nasty chemicals, no long warm-up and hopefully no nasty flicker either. I wonder if the quality of light matches a conventional bulb?

They still don't sound that efficient, though, compared to CCFL and LED alternatives. I'd guess that alone will see them killed off for no better reason than petty politics

I didnt even know you could get LED household lightbulbs yet, any pointers as to where from ?

Finally, I can get my femtosecond laser out again!

Sounds great if you can power the laser by magic... more proof that scientists have too much free time on their hands.

There was a thread on LED bulbs a while ago, though having read it I was left feeling that it could be a while before they're really bright enough to be a viable replacement for halogen bulbs. They're made in the sizes that fit downlighters and 'eyeball' fittings.
