Question

My 13 year old son has suddenly started receiving come-ons from SMS sex chat-lines on his pay as you go phone, I am not sure how the system works so I am not sure how to stop it, or how they got his number.
He tells me he just started receiving a series of messages with one at the end saying do you want the messages to stop, He sent a message back saying yes, and apparently all his credit has now gone!

Any ideas folks?

Question

Are you sure he did not subscribe to the service? I know I would have done @ 13 years old

Seriously, though he will be paying at least £1 for each message received until he unsubscribes. If you DIDN'T subscribe then I would have a chat with either OFTEL or Trading Standards.

Cheers folks,

Phoning Vodafone is my next step, I'll let you know the result.

No I'm not sure whether he subscribed or not, I know I wouldn't have confessed that to my folks at that age, so I am currently keeping an open mind.

I am almost certain that your son is an entirely innocent victim of this:

Well after two days of trying on the Vodafone PAYG helpline, I am still no nearer the source. The touchtone system will flog you Kylie tickets, top-up cards or new toys, but everytime you get through to a human they tell you it is the 'wrong department, please hold'. Have not yet been put through to the correct department.

Will keep you posted.

this happened to a friend of mine, at the bottom of one of the txt msgs should be a po box number to right to to stop the messages, the trouble is every time he tops the phone up it will take his credit until the txt messages are all sent
also as for how he got on there in the first place they are mostly run by ringtone companys etc as well
