Grass!!!! What's the deal?
Tidied the garden last year, finally removing four of those 1 tonne sacks they deliver sand in, containing soil. The grass and everything else under them was dead, no surprise there.
Reseeded it this year. Hardly any has come up, I reckon the birds have eaten it, but there are enough weeds to populate Kew Bl**dy Gardens!
Unless I inadvertently bought "weed seed", sold for DIY Jungle makers
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, so to speak, the lawn grass is constantly invading the borders.
Does the fappin' stuff have a mind of it's own, or is it just me, as usual?

My cousin rang up last week asking if I had the free paper from the previous week. Said yes, and she was after some dudes phone number. He's doing lawn turf for about £1.39 per sq/m. Give him a call and stop moaning

Tanya - I'm a total beginner but cleared about half an acre (was very thin grass/brambles/nettles), chucked "paddock" grass on it and after lots of patience, it all grew.
Not exactly a Chelsea Flower show finish but it still looks pretty good - and we have zillions of birds and rabbits. I think planting it at the right time may be key. Or just a fluke.
It's now needing a mow every few days - arrghhh!!

My neighbour burnt half of our lawn away last year with his "I will put power in my shed with a bit of old flex" project. Anyways he as a gesture tried to re seed the lawn, it ended up looking like a pets toilet so I re soiled, got a MASSIVE bag of canadian grass seeds ( I did try to smoke it, turns out this is the other type) and watered lightly twice a day.
After two weeks it came through, a bit sparse at first but it get thicker over time.
In my case it worked out for every 4 handfulls of seed 1 came worked.

It can't be a massive area so I would go for turf - but do it properly! Rake out ground and as many weeds as you can. Sprinkle on some topsoil or even potting compost and use decent fresh turf. You must tamper this down.
In view of your back problems you will need to get someone else to do the work! Do keep it watered and just cut top after a few weeks. I have found an old kitchen carving knife great for cutting turf to shape but best not to tell Mrs.

After having works done on the front garden, the lawn was totalled. We were going have one of those fancy stone chipping/rockery gardens, but having seen what happens to shale after 5-10 year (goes dull, grey and gets infested with weeds), we thought better of it.
Just returfed it in the end, used some good quality Rolawn Turf, its only 15 square metres, so it was actually cheaper than stone chippings. After feeding it, aerating it and scarifying it in the spring, Its growing lovely, like a thick deep-piled green carpet. Far better than what was there before; a well established 30 year old lawn.
Meanwhile a bare patch I seeded on the rear lawn where I dug out a huge ants nest/hump is only "just" starting to show signs of life after three weeks, in the shape of dozen or so thin blades in a square metre . Even though the seed that raked in with mixed compost and covered with topsoil and given a light mist of water every few days in the dry spell.
I have therefore come to the conclusion that domestically avaiable grass seed is shyte; damn stuff just refuses to germinate. No manufacture date on the box (levington), so its probably been stuck on the shop shelf for god knows how long
I'm that impressed with the Rolawn turf, I'm tempted to re-turf the whole rear garden with it. Although being 40 square metres its going cost a fair bit more. I might give their seed a bash as a last gasp effort though.

The rest of mine is OK, far fewer weeds than last years after I used a feed andd grren weed, and mosskiller on it. Can't put that on new stuff though
Bought two packs of it B&Q own brand, identical to the stuff in a marked up box, even to 0.1% in the ingredients;( and cost less for two boxes than the other stuff was in BOGOF
