Default First ever triathlon...

Just done the Sprint class of the Endurancelife off road triathlon :

500 sea swim with grim 500m run to the water and then 500m back up a nasty hill(!),
9 mile MTB ride - superb, very technical, lots of stiles, streams, bogs and even a very scary Indiana Jones type rickety bridge!
3.5 mile coast run - rather vicious) and won it - woo hoo!!

Here's an MTB pic at the end of that stage:

And a silly wetsuit shot - a look that might not take off - I was the only competitor without goggles!

Mrs Matt then spotted a local smaller tri (6 mile MTB ride, 4 mile coast run, 2km row - except we only have an inflatable, not a proper row boat) and was 5th overall and the 2nd female - brilliant!

Well done Matt.

You won't catch me doing triathlons, water is for the fishes Next installment of our daftness is a 5-hour race around the Brecon Beacons at the end of the month - just running and MTB, no need to get wet

SJ - there was a kayak class too but it had to be cancelled due to the horrendous waves and weather - they would have got battered! The poor bu66ers all had to do an extra run instead!!

Was really worried about the swim - I surf a lot and used to beach lifeguard, plus do a fair bit of open water swimming in the Summer - but hadn't been able to train much due to repeated sinusitis from pool swims. I was the only one out of everyone without goggles! Just not used to them in the sea. Came out in about the top 5th I think. Then had to run 500m up a killer hill! I walked a small bit of it as did pretty much everyone else!

Thanks all - surprised I haven't been flamed yet!

Pimmo - any specific training? Are you finding having a little one impacts much on it? I was surprised how much I could still do after we had our little one. It was sort of an escape.

Not done a thing in the last 4 weeks.. actually get chest aches from lack of exercise ..

I've not been aiming to complete any particular events, just small mile stones .. like beat 8 minute mile .. I was trying to gain weight too... got to 13 stone .. whooo and lost a stone in the last few weeks..

Not wanting to dissapoint, although I have been busy.......

Must have been a lack of entries if you won, and your wife was first of the losers.

Balance restored -phew!

Davy - about 80-100 in my "group" I think. Hard to say exacly but 100s of competitors overall.

And wife hasn't been able to train much so did very well. Averaged 15.5mph on her MTB ride and was the fastest rider by a fair margin - but not the fastest runner or rower. She gave birth 7 months ago so not bad. Hers wasn't a big event and was very last minute (found out about it on Friday). I think her achievement is probably more impressive than mine really

Well done both of you.

15.5 mph average on an MTB is good going !

I think I could do the swimming and cycling quite well now (by my standards), but the running, hmm.

Official results are now up - 4th fastest swimmer, 3rd fastest MTBer, fastest (by a fair margin) runner - phew! Was worried they might have made a mistake!
