I'll be interested to see what my current MP claims as he's part of the shadow cabinet. He's been sound in office so far, pushing many local issues. He also seems like a solid chap having served in the forces and had a career before joining the world of politics.
From what he's done for the local community it would be sad to see him having taken the ****.

My local MP claims for a house in London as his second home and says "people will understand". It's a one hour train journey away - the morning trains are full of people paid a lot less than he is doing the same journey, and who can't claim expenses for a property in the capital.

But it's all smoke and mirrors! Cameron is just publishing because it's the 'politically expedient' thing to do, not because he wants to stop the toughing as he's in it up to his neck himself. No way does he want to de-rail the Westminster gravy train. And all the time these muppets are worrying about who'll pay for next years dung or Laura Ashley curtains they're neither a) running the country (in Labour's case) nor b) holding them to account (in all other cases).
Euro elections coming up and which of the main parties has said anything about Europe? Camerons Euro-vid was all about expenses FFS .... We need a modern day Cromwell!

I have to say though Dave that he is going about it in a funny way not to derail the Westminster trough! He has jumped on the bandwagon though and stolen a march on Flash- all part of the game-which is largely what it is!
Yesterday they mentioned that our local Conservative MP claimed about £87K I think for taking care of trees on his country estate! Should have seen him wriggling on our local news! Always thought he was a bit of a creep anyway.

The local elections coming up have 2 Independents, a Liberal (lots of them in Cornwall for reasons that have always escaped me, even when growing up here ....) and a UKIP. Not sure about the Euros yet - haven't seen the candidate list and nothing come through the letterbox asking for my vote. Guess they know it's a waste of time (almost) voting in the Euros 'cos nowt will change ...

Yes its time that their salaries started to be related to what they actually do of significance now since they are not really into proper law making any more-just the ones which suit them of course. Apart from following their partys' whip and voting as they are ordered to do, they dont seem to have much else to do in the Commons. Only usually see about 15 or so in the house now. That must be why they will be off for their 12 week summer holiday( sorry-recess!)

For saying they run (ruin?) the Country they dont get paid a huge wage, its not in proportion to other countries. Its not even as much as a secondary school head. It was always supposed that an MP should do the job because he wanted to rather than for the money, so the pay was kept low for that reason. Perhaps why they are all trying to make up on the side.
They should get a reasonable wage, but not crazy money. Bearing in mind we are now governed from Brussels, at a cost to the UK taxpayer of forty million pounds a week. Perhaps UKIP have a point......
I think David Cameron probably has the right idea. Bearing in mind that MP's did try to get their expenses removed from the public infor ation act not so long ago. Gordon Brown and Jack Straw were big movers on that, good job it didnt go through.

I think they get more than enough for what they actually do these days. Don't forget all the tax free allowances that they get as well as the second home allowance.
Not just those two, Gorbals Mick was working just as hard as well. Went to court on our taxes to get them suppressed.
He did a fair bit of wriggling and blocking in the House yesterday too!

Jeez. Saw Browns news conference earlier. He just doesn't get it. Several of the journos. said that with the British people fed up to the back teeth with ALL MPs we should havean election. No no, said Flash. That's not the way to do it. We need to fix the system first ......
Sorry - but asking the present incumbants of the house to fix the system is like asking the Great Train Robbers to sort out the justice system .... Get rid of the lot, and the new lot would have to say how they would reform the system. The more we liked their thoughts the more we would be likely to vote for them. As it is I have zero faith in this lot sorting things out.

The Mash have it spot on ... MPs BEGIN DESPERATE HUNT FOR LOOPHOLES - The Daily Mash
"... A NEW system of MPs allowances was outlined by Gordon Brown last night as shamed members of parliament immediately began scouring it for scams and loopholes ..."
And the bit I missed from his *speech* yesterday ... "... Unveiling the reforms, Mr Brown insisted the House of Commons could no longer operate as a '19th century gentleman's club' filled with ghastly people like Harriet Harman and Hazel Blears ..."
