Default Omega watch servicing

My ten year old Omega Seamaster chronometer requires a service.

To send it back to Omega costs around £250 and takes ten weeks

Can anyone recommend any independent watch repairers who will be cheaper and quicker or should I just bend over, drop my trousers and take it like a man?

A quick google found these;

Bend over, drop trousers and take it like a man!!

You don't want anyone servicing it!!

You will get back more than the £250 in extra value when/if you sell ....

Daz
I take mine to a watch guy who is spot on with Rolex and Omega. If you live around the NW, I'll give you his number.

Lets say an independant service costs £150 .... surely the security and assurance of a proper Omega Service is worth much more than the £100 difference?

I would say that £250 represents a fair proportion of the value of the watch and I doubt you would recoup this if you decided to sell. Have always used Rolex employees doing "private" work.
Never had any bother

About £1500 new ..... remember we are only talking about the difference between an Omega Service and another ... maybe £100?

You have not mentioned why you think it needs a service, is there anything wrong with its function?

I have spoken to people who have said their watch needs a service, and when I have looked at it the crown was missing.

Thats a bit like saying my Impreza needs a service because its cambelt has snapped.

If you look closely at the case back of your watch you should see a small red spot of enamel between the case back and watch body, this indicates to Omega as to whether the case back has been removed.

If the spot is in takt then I would pay the Omega price, if it is missing I would send it to independant service centre.

If it keeps good time and all functions are working I would leave it alone.

Cheers for the replies.

Saleable value doesn't bother me as I wear it 24/7, have done so for ten years and don't see that ever changing.

No red dot on mine. It has been serviced before by Omega but it was about half the price and half the waiting time then.

It functions fine and keeps pretty accurate time. It has been six years since its last service and I believe the recommended intervals are about every three years or so.
I might just take your advice though and leave it until it gives me problems.

I had mine serviced by Omega this year.

Advice as above, I just left mine until it had a problem, once it started losing time & getting worse, so in it went.

I'm sure there are other places just as good, but it's a bit like getting your car serviced, there's not too many good places & loads of crap ones..... You know Omega are going to do a good job.

Daz34 - ignore Sunnysideup he is just trolling -
Do agree with what Yoza says re the red dot but mine never had one from new, and like your mine is an everyday watch so the comment in my eyes re resale from sunnysideup is pretty pointless.
Dont bother with Omega UK as I found them useless and V expensive and for a ten year old watch, I used these Time Repairs - Watch, Clock, Repair, Straps - who did a repair / service - on mine as it stopped then worked for a day or so and then stopped.
Took 8 weeks but came back immaculate and for 1/2 price Omega Uk quoted.

Richard

Unless the watch is worth a small fortune (so counts out most Omega's!) you'd have to be mad to get it serviced for £250...

I have an Omega and there is no way I'll be getting it serviced by Omega if it starts to fail

Someone said you'll get it back on the resale - have you seen what most Omega's sell for on Ebay...........

I'll also be taking to a smaller independent - most watches are easy to sort out and if it costs more than a £100 for a second hand watch I'd probably bin it - mine cost me £2200.... so relatively cheap compared to Rolex's

I got cheaper quotes for servicing, but they couldn't pressure seal it, so not guaranteed waterproof.

Mine has a blue dot.

I read an article by a chap who works for IWC and he said dont bother unless there is a problem. You can cause more damage taking it apart than the benefit gained from a service.

There is so much more to an automatic watch service than you may realise, disassembly of the movement, oiling, replacing worn parts, reassemble, callibration and reseal.

There are so many tiny parts it amazes me.

The video below is like **** to me, I have not got to the end yet without making a mess.

YouTube - Rolex Service

Or you can pay a reduced rate and get your watch serviced here........

I preffer the music, but thats about it..
