hands or mouth win everytime, however if you actually want to keep your ***** I suggest you go to the hospital and arrange to hire one from them. They do the proper ones that look like a milky shed.
The battery ones from boots are crap and a waste of time
oh..and here is a top tip.
When you are sitting at home and there is no-one around and you are a bit bored, do NOT be tempted to try out the pump on your own nipple...
It fookin hurts

My missus tried battery and she siad it felt like the bloody thing was trying to suck her inside out, gave me an idea as it happens but luckily it never came to fruition.
So she went mechanical, more ideas for me but, well you get the idea,.....

It depends on what her milk production is like. If yo uwant to up the supply and get some milk flowing, the electric Medela one is great! It stimulates the breast more than a manual one and you don't loose any milk from loss of suction around the breast.
If she has good production already (even though I understand it's early days) then the Philips Avent manual one is good value for money. But as it is manual I found when the loss of suction meant that some of that important milk ended dripping down my chest and soaking my trousers!
What formula milk have you and the Mrs bought? They are all pretty much the same but Aptamil is great stuff, and rammed full or pre biotics to help it settle better in the tum. Goes best if you are mixed feeding as the poo tends to be more like breast milk in consistancy and helps the no.2's to stay the bit looser.

My wife tried both the electric pump and manual pumps. The hand pump was much more pleasant to use than the electric one as it was not as harsh on her body bits, and not only that she found she could extract more milk much more quickly. She says to stimulate the milk before you pump - that is key.

A good tip when she is pumping have a pic of lo, and an item of clothing that has been worn. It helps to trick the mind into thinking that the baby is feeding and not just something attached to her boob. Sounds crazy, but it works.
