Want a Quad!!!
After going on one on holiday I want one
A friend of a friend is selling his. Its a Quadzilla SMC 300 XLC. 2006 plate. 3500 miles. MOT till September, no TAX. Comes with thatcham approved lock for the disk brake and large chain. He wants £1400. This about right?
Also where do I go for insurance?

As above, motorbike insurers should do the job.

Riding quads on UK roads ican be dangerous, we are not used to them and tbh the stability and cornering isn't brilliant. for road use really needs road tyres and a spacer kit to widen the track out.
Oh and please wear a helmet
1 would have said closer to 1200.00 in real good condition/low miles and not much off road thrashing. Have a look on fleabay for a cost comparison.

He, He, yes Knew a few people who had them whilst i was in Dubai, real good fun and the accelleration is phenominal. We used to take them out into the desert (funnily enough) and horse them around out there. Big Red was a popular destination. the 4 cyl liquid cooled sportsbike engined 650+CC quads always reminded me of the feeling that Wylie E Coyote (of Roadrunner fame) must have felt when he got a set of rollerskates and a huge ACME rocket, strapped the rocket to his back and lit the fuse - mental performance and yet they still tuned them as well!
They where banned from Road use in Dubai as the standard of driving is sh*te and so many people where killed or injured.

One of ours- a Honda 450.
No way quads should have ever been legalised for road use IMHO
Can be seen in action at The Shropshire Truck Show Official Website this weekend

Bet it wasn't £1400!
My workmate had a Polaris quad, we used to go up the road to lunch on it...no way that it should be legal! The thing was capable of 60 mph- there's no way it would have stopped in an accident! Great off road with protective clothing but not for the road.

Technically you don't need to wear a helmet on one on the road- you'd be daft not to, but you don't have to. Also there is no bodywork, no seatbelt, no airbag etc. I agree four wheels is better than 2 or 3 - obviously- but it's not an ideal road set up really.
