Default M1 Average Speed Check Camera's ?!

Does anyone know if they really do work???? I mean properly....
Has anyone ever been stopped/got a ticket/fined/lost there licenses ect ect

They got them up for about 12miles up north & a few miles down south of the M1 but really... they do take a lot of time to get by as u always got the other **** in front of ya not doing 50 as u should but doing 40!!

I've seen alot of people doing 60mph+ & only slow down when the da cam is about to come up

I cant answer your question but I know there has been a thread on this before and I'm pretty sure they do work. I dont think the HA would go to all that trouble and expense of plumbing them in if they didn't, after all they're another great cash cow, we had them on the M1 between 2 and 5 last year and the amount of people that didn't slow down was quite amazing .

I work on the basis that they do, though there's clearly some people who don't (usually black RR Sports!)

last time I went through, the restrictions were for 13 miles, the actual road working for less than 1.

Is it really worth assuming that they are not working though. Is it worth the fine and the points just to go over the speed limit?

I wouldnt risk it, but see what the truckers do they usually know the score. Unlikely to trigger at 50 though. But some people just dont know the meaning of average speed cameras.
The ones up in Nottinghamshire are a real pain, but it does seem to keep the traffic moving

My wifes parents live in Pontefract so coming from Wales we have alot of M1 and M42 - I think the M42 has some too.

The 50mph thing is a PITA. Its very tedious and IMO makes you A) tired quicker b) vunerable to arctics which ignore the limit and overtake you. When a lorry goes past you can feel the pull on the car. Only takes one foreign lorry and an inexperienced driver to cause a fatal accident linked to these cameras.

Theres also a 50mph limit on some parts of the M4 although no one seems to pay that much attention right now

Nah, don't worry, I'm pretty sure none of them work. They're just there for show, so just relax and put your foot down.

Let us know how you get on.
