The only place I can think of is to get an online insurace quote (e.g. Tesco)

When you come to the section for endorsements it may give you some clue.

Probably
Driving withoud due care or attention
or
Wreckless driving

I am certain there is a category for failing to comply to a signal on the above mentioned categories. You'll also find them on the Directline site as well. Don't worry too much, its not a "proper conviction" i.e magistrates court case, just a fixed penalty so providing you don't already have any more points the insurance should be ok.

The DVLA website lists all the endorsement codes so try there: http://www.dvla.gov.uk/drivers/endorsem.htm

Ive always been curious about how one gets one of these offences. Surely if a police officer sees you jumping a red light its his word against yours - surely thats not enough or is it in this case?

Simon.

AFAIK, isn't the fact that they are a policeman enough to make them an expert witness or something? At which point it's like Top Trumps and they've got the better card.

Im not sure - in regards to speeding they cant just say they saw you speeding, they need evidence that will hold up in a court of law. So surely that would be the same for any other road traffic offence or am I just being too unrealistic by assuming that UK Road Traffic Laws are the same throughout?

Technically if two police officers present say someone is speeding then that should be satisfactory for a prosecution. In 6 years I have never seen this happen though.

As for the red light thing. It happens and people do it all the time sometimes on purpose sometimes not. The only problem is when a Police car is behind you at the time or you leave it a little too late and get T-Boned. From experience Magistates tend to accept police evidence on this as really there would be no need to lie about it.

Nathan..
