This is all a load of scaremongering bullsh1t by the government imo, to distract everyone from the economic abyss they have left us in.
Around 4000 people a year die in the UK alone every year from influenza, yet they don't go issuing face masks and leaflets
Still if it drags out until next may they will have the perfect excuse to postpone the election.

I don't think this is the same kind of scaremongering fiasco as Avian Flu was.
This is going to affect people's lives and I hope everyone will take the precautions seriously because it could help to reduce the spread of this new virus.
Everyone might be chuckling about it at the moment but the difference between ordinary flu and this new type is that it has killed healthy people in the 20 - 40 age range not the usual elderly or people with additional health problems. A kind of reverse of the "survival of the fittest" logic.
At the momnet it hasn't had the same impact outside of Mexico but give it some time to mutate and people might not be chuckling so heartily when burying someone they know who died from it.
I hope I'm totally wrong and then you can all take the pi$$.
I will be very happy if I can look back at this and go yep! I was taken in again.

Is that true? You are talking about an excess immune reaction (cytokine storm sp?) ala Spanish Flu......yet the folks in the States and the couple in Scotland are fine.....the only death outside Mexico was a MEXICAN kid who had just left the area.
I would have thought where this goes nuts is when it starts ripping through third world countries with no drugs or communication?

If deaths do occur to some of those NY students especially ones that contracted it second hand i.e. didn't actually visit Mexico then this is going to change the dynamic significantly. I hope the 'kin virus just goes away but I don't really see that happening at the moment.

You may all laugh, but on Saturday I stepped off a plane from California (where new swine flu has been diagnosed) and since Monday I've had a very bad cold.
My mate who came on holiday with me has been in bed with proper flu since Sunday night.
Fortunately my cold was just that - a cold, and is easing now.
My mate, however, is still in bed and has got a Doctor coming out to see him tomorrow....
Could just be a coincidence, but it makes you wonder.

Take vitemin D in your diet, eat fruit and drink plenty of fluid - should detox your body and get your immune system back to strength.
Apparently vitemin D is one of the best counter measures you can apply now. Then just make sure you follow good hygene, clearn your hands, surfaces and get some bloody fresh air people, it is the best medicine (unless fresh for you is ron 95 exhaust fumes at your front door)
