Default MTB Road Tyres?

Can anyone recommend some good on-road tyres for an MTB?

The knobblies offer too much resistance and are very noisy. I'm after something for road and very light trail use; something like Schwalbe Big Apple's or Marathon Plus.

Any recommendations?

PS. I'm not buying a new bike

Schwalbe Furious Freds are very good as are Continental Race Kings. They roll fast but weight naff all.
Marathon Plus tyres are good in most ways (almost puncture proof) but flipping heavy.

I do a lot of road miles on Continental Mountain Kings - not really road tyres at all but they roll well and have the all important rounded "shoulders" - square "shouldered" tyres are very good at slipping sideways on wet roads - I advise avoiding them!

Bike Hut at Halfrauds do some lovely 1.25 city tyres, and 1.5 semi's. Both great in town

Apologies for hijack but has anyone seen any 26 x 1.5/1.75 mtb road tyres in white for sale. Not just the top but sidewalls too. I've looked everywhere and googled but could only find some cheng shin in the USA.

DJ Dunc, you should be able to find something suitable in the link below.

Specialized nimbus armadillos, make sure you get ones with kevlar to reduce punctures.

I've got some Continental full slicks, properly awesome!!! The difference is immense, you can feel every pedal ripping into the tarmac!

Picked up a pair of Specialized Nimbus Armadillos today in the end. My bike is a Spesh anyway and they were the best ones on my shortlist that the local dealer stocked.

Bit of a pig to fit, thumbs hurt now But they look the business and more importantly ride like a dream on the road
