Default 4 years for killing the wrong person?

Couple jailed for supermarket killing - Yahoo! News UK

Seems a bit light for such a crime?

They've probably been on remand for 9 months, so if they serve half the sentence which is normal, she'll be out in 5 months and he'll be out in about 18 months.

Very light sentence for taking a life and ruining countless others.

You get as much for far lesser things.

Doesn't send out much of a message to the other bullies out there who are prepared to use violence for being apparently dissed.

This is a disgrace!

What planet are these judges on?

The pair of chavvie scum went on the look to harm someone, pre-meditated - should be life for both of them!

"At the time of the attack Virasami was on bail, tagged and under curfew for shoplifting, while Richardson a 37 year old grandmother, has previous convictions for deception and handling stolen goods, the court heard. "

Well the electronic tagging system works well then doesn't it!

Judge Geoffrey Rivlin QC said the sentences reflected the "shock and concern felt by the public at large".

Er, no, I can't see that myself.

20 years each before the remission rubbish kicked in would have worked for me.

The discounts on sentences are to ensure that prison staff can cope with prisoners. Personally I'd prefer sentences to mean what they are when they are given and any bad behaviour inside would add time on.

Sentences these days are generally correct. The time that criminals spend inside after that sentence are a joke and no incentive. The prisons themselves are so riddled with drugs that for many of the inmates it's not a punishment

Three strikes and you are out.....discuss.

If you are on bail (and then found guilty of that offence) and commit another crime then that is it.

I'm sure that the family of the dead man would put up £20k to take these two scumbags out of circulation ....... it's about time we started dishing out the penalties the community wants!!!!!

Oh yes that would be great situation wouldn't it

Get real Pete 'the community' doesn't have a collective view on this, just as SN doesn't.

Let's have tougher sentences, not anarchy

Certainly the penalties are far too light, especially since they will be let out halfway through. Their "previous" does nothing to grant them any leeway either.
