Wisdom teeth!!
Anyone had thesE?!
I've got one which is poking through my gum behind my last back tooth - doesnt hurt, but clearly need to get something done about it!
What is the best way to get these dealt with? Dentist, or go and see doctor, or NHS dentist or what?...

These are usually no big deal.
Just go to a dentist and if it is easy to deal with, they will do it.
If it looks difficult, they will refer you to an expert.
Simple
Seeing the GP would be a waste of both of your time.

I guess I'll get booked into the dentists next week and go from there. Not massively up for having to get to hospital to get them removed, but I suppose if that's what has to be done then thats what has to be done!!

Loving the way this thread is making wisdom teeth removal sound so fluffy and walk in the park.

Had all 4 come through (a *while* ago mind ....). 3 were removed as per normal teeth as they weren't impacted or anything. The 4th is still there as I'd already had a tooth removed a couple in front of it so there was *room for growth*. So it doesn't have to be all bad ....

The amount of injections made me spontaneously throw up very badly as my throat spasmed.
never known pain like it for the 2 weeks of recovery.
You're not kidding, I had one that took a week to heal. It was the worst pain I have ever had to endure, I barely slept, couldn't lay down, couldn't sit up, couldn't stand up, couldn't move, couldn't stay still. I cried, I screamed, I cried, I wanted to die. It was horrendous

I had mine done under local in hospital, unbelievable pain followed for a couple of days.
I had each side done seperately a couple of months apart, the 2nd lot were even worse as they pulled a muscle in my face just below my eye yanking out the lower tooth and left a piece of tooth behind which I had to extract myself later that week.
I had it done on the NHS and had to wait 18 months, by the time the appointment came they weren't hurting anymore. Certainly hurt afterwards for a while!
On the plus side it shows that you are a superior human as you have evolved with a smaller jaw as those teeth are no longer needed as we don't eat raw meat any more. If you don't get problems with your wisdom teeth it just means you haven't evolved and are still closely related to the missing link
If they offer to cut your gum and stitch it afterwards go for it, apparently its virtually pain free compared to having them yanked out.

FFS, 95% of upper wisdom teeth extractions are a five minute job.
I'm getting the impression that if people on here confined their opinions to matters they knew anything about, it would be a very quiet place.

Horrible things. I managed to keep my top wisdoms but had to have the bottom ones removed. Impacted, no room for them. Ghastly experience :shudder:
Good luck

Wisdom teeth extraction was the worst and most painful experience in my entire life, even after 6 injections, (yes 6) to numb the pain I could still feel the fecking thing getting ripped out my mouth, they seem to have really long roots which go really far in to your jaw,a place where anaesthetics can't reach, I was in pain for weeks after mine were removed, don't ask about the actual extraction as I passed out due to the severe pain

Depends if they need "digging out".
They can be anything from a five minute job to - well - a fair bit longer.
As an NHS dentist will get paid the same amount for either job, they will refer any difficult case. Either that or they are very bored
Once they have taken an X-Ray, they should be be able to show you what is going on and what to expect.
After any extraction, the wound can get infected (apprx 5%), but again, this is for any extraction and not just wisdom teeth.
