BT - why are they so dis-honest and unethical?

BT - why are they so dis-honest and unethical?
They really cheese me off!!!
I contacted them to complain about the slow speed of my Broadband, a few months ago. I asked them for the code to allow me to move suppliers, they offered to cut my monthly charge in half to stay with them.
I had some old experiences of the BT Sales Team promising everything and then you find they have put you on some plan or another ... without your say-so!!
So, I got - in writing - that the ONLY change to my account would be a reduction in my monthly charge for Broadband.
They offered a new Home Hub and new Hub Phone too.
I receive a new Home Hub, but no Hub Phone ... so, I contact them and ask why - "You wanted to be moved to another account Option which doesn't offer a Hub Phone" was the answer!
Now, I have all the e-mails - the telephone calls were recorded - to prove, beyond all doubt that the only change was to be a reduction in my monthly charge!
Looks like I will be adding BT to my list of County Court scalps - this is more conclusive than the Currys episode ........ so BT

I had an issue with BT when I moved to O2 (much faster and much cheaper by the way). Having requested the MAC code I received confirmation of a my new BT contract Then they were really slow to issue the code. It took numerous phone calls an emails to sort it out, but I made it eventually.
Good luck

I love the way they send blurb, which is just to get you to sign up to a new contract, and then hide loads of unrelated changes in the small print...
there latest...
free 0845 & another number.....
and hidden in the T's & C's the monthly line rental is going up by £1
no letter to anyone to say this...
good old BT nothing like sour grapes

Dont get me started on BT !
Their product was fine, speed good, uptime fine.
But I upgraded from the stingray modem to the homehub when it came out.
I received the hub and a letter saying the phones were out of stock, but they sent me a landline phone to use in the meantime. Very kind I thought.
A month later, no phone, called up and asked where it was, and was told that upgrade customers didn't get them!!!!!
Naturally I complained and eventually got it.
When it came time to leave, I called up for my code............ and they gave me an invalid number!! Eventually when I left "again" I endured 10 mins on the phone with the BT guy telling me Orange were rubbish, and he looked forward to me calling back with my tail between my legs in months to come, asking to come back!
Bye bye BT!

I lost my phone line and broadband for nearly 3 weeks with BT, they cut us of 3 weeks before our contract ended!!!!! Not even a phone call to ask if we wanted to renew!!!!

They told me they wouldn't price match on broadband.
Good enough reason for me to go elsewhere.
I think they trade on their name to a degree and do alright out of the old and unadventurous.
Bit like QANTAS and BA.
Traditional (none) levels of service

Long story, cut very short...
New house being built, gave BT 2 months notice of moving in date, got an install date, they break the install date 6 times, they blame the builders, builders had never seen BT at any time, I call BT 12 times over 2 months, they finally install 12 weeks later than promised.
And my new connection that cost £125 did not include putting a socket in the house, I now know that the NTE Master is external and you have to get your builder to install internal sockets or do it yourself.
The people on the customer service department don't know this, so they keep telling you that your line is working correctly and that they will deduct the connection fee because the line is working, even though you have nothing to connect your phone too...!
How the hell was I supposed to know that new builds have external NT5's? even the bloody BT engineer had never heard of this.
They are a national disgrace, good luck with them.

I was with TT at the last place - only had a minor hiccup when they did the LLU stuff at the exchange. But quick trip to the exchange and talk to the BT Openlook guys there and all was OK again.
I'm now with BT 'cos the house I'm in now is connected to an exchange where there is only BT equipment installed (back of beyond). But I get the full 8Mb/s 'cos I'm only a mile or so from the exchange. When I wanted a line swap (2 lines at the house - the disconnected line was more convenient and reliable) BT on the phone were effing useless. Again, a quick chat to a couple of Openlook engineers and the crossing of palms with some beer tokens and all was well with the world again .....
Moral? Yes, BT are ****e as an organisation so cut out the dross and go straight to the coal face .....

Well it just proves everyone has a different time with these people, we have just signed up for another 12 months with them, upgraded to option 3 from 1 at less money than we were paying before plus a couple of pound off the line rental.
We only get a max 2.5mb download no matter who we are with so speed is never the issue.
12 months uninterupted service no problems whatsoever {touches wood }
The only thing I would say bad about them is they keep sending me letters trying to get me to sign up, even though we have already renewed and the letter offer is ****e. I called and dealt with a very nice women on the phone from the UK.
Maybe we are just lucky?
Also O2 are supposed to be ok as my brother uses them and not had any problems.
I believe they offer decent reductions if you are on a contract sim with them too.

I have an O2 mobile, so pay £7.34 a month for up to 8Mbit. I regularly speed test the line at between 6 and 7 Mbit - around twice as fast as I got with the same speed on BT. My only experience of customer service was when I signed up, and apart from the BT part, that went well.
I'm very pleased with O2.

I find BT okay. They have sorted various problems and even helped me when I was running a campaign to get my local exchange Broadband enabled.
Having said that, I've never used them for Broadband, I used to use Zen and now have the excellent BeThere.
