Help please
I know this should be in CR, but can you leave it here for a wee while please mods!
OK, here goes. I have just finished building my new pc which is working fabulously, apart from one annoying boot problem, which is..
?QS* training failed on previous boot, reverted to slower DRAM speed.
Press F1 to continue.
* I can't see the first letter as it's off the screen but suspect it to be D, Anyhoo have googled the problem but the answers are either way too technical for my tiny brain or there is no answer.
I've been in the BIOS and set it to load optimised and Fail safe defaults, but still getting the error, it's doing my nut in!
In case you need the system info it's..
Triple-core AMD, processor, 2gb ram, Windows XP
Any help muchly appreciated
TIA
Tam

Googling the error, finds a few instances of people getting the error when trying to run high speed RAM.
Do you know what spped your RAM is supposed to be?
As for the error, its more of a statement. It's basically saying that the max speed of your RAM is to too high for the system so it has lowered it to the fastest exceptable speed.
If it is causing your system to not boot, then change the RAM otherwise I wouldn't worry about it.

The ram is only 2 gb, the mobo can handle a lot more than that Someone mentioned something about the Northbridge voltage needs to be changed, but that just confused me even more
The system is booting up ok, just a pain having to press F! every time

RAM runs a certain speeds. Usually shown as PC6400 or 800mhz.
Some mobo's can use a variety of RAM (800mhz or 1066mhz) but to use higher speed you will need to change certain BIOS settings. If the MOBO is new then you should have the manual, which will guide you to what settings need to be changed.
If you have installed 1066mhz RAM but the BIOS is setup for 800mhz RAM then you will get the message you stated. The MOBO has automatically downgraded the RAM to 800mhz, which the RAM will run at perfectly normaly.

There should be a sticker on the RAM chip.
Also in your BIOS. However different MOBO's display there info differently, so I wont be able to tell you where exactly in your BIOS you willl be able to find it. Again you will have to use the manual.

Using a wee app from the net which scanned my system the results are..
Compatible memory required for : Model Name: GeForce7050M-M | Motherboard Model: GeForce7050M-M | Maximum Memory: 8 GB | Total Slots: 4 (Currently Memory in 1 Slots) | Memory Size: 2048 MB, | Memory Speeds:333 MHz, | Processor Speed: 2094 | Manufacturer: ECS
I assume my RAM is unbranded

I've got a few bits and bobs still to do with the system, so I'll look at the Ram sticker then. I've also had a look at the manual, hard going as the print is fecking tiny..
At least I've a clearer idea of what to do and now know the message is nothing serious
Thanx for your help Floodboy and Edd
Cheers Mods for leaving it in NSR, you can move it to CR now, I'll be able to find it there later on at least

Not sure tbh, I've never updated a bios version before and it's something I'd rather have a more knowledgeable person do it as I'd be scared I fooked it up!

From memory, the Phenom uses the AMD+2 socket, which tends to have the side affect of not supporting 1024 Mhz RAM at full speed. Read your motherboard manual as that will tell you about it.
