Default How much does your car cost you per mile ?

I was astounded how much mine has cost me over the last year per mile.

I bought it in October 2007, Saab 9-3 Aero, 2003, 47,000 miles for 9 grand.

From March 08 to March 09 it has cost,

Insurance £400
Tax £210 (£215 next year, £345 2010/2011)
Maintenance £200
MOT £40
Petrol £700

Not including the £630 on a remap and filter as that wasnt entirely necessary.
Nor does it include the imminent tyres it needs, or the possibility of a clutch that raised its head but went away.

I reckon it was worth about seven or eight grand in March of last year and about 4 to 5 now (if I could sell it)

So conservatively I have lost three grand in depreciation.

I have done 3500 miles, due to living near work and cycling a lot of the time, will hopefully do nearer 2,000 this year but based on the 3500.

It has cost me £1.30 per mile, or the best part of four and a half grand.

To drive a Saab !

I wonder how much something like a BMW M6 costs per mile ?

What is the cheapest motoring you can do that doesnt involve a Metro ?

Last tax year it was £13,000 for 23,000 miles (leasing/petrol/mods/ins/tyres).
= 56ppm but no where near the IR claim costs

my total travel bill, excluding flights, for a year is under £1500 and 0 CO2

unfortunately, i've just calculated my CO2 for holiday flights and I rack up 2 tonnes per passenger (me ) per year,

"i.e. your total sustainable carbon emissions budget for all purposes (including heating, cooking, lighting, local transport, etc.) for 4 years."

My best was my black Fabia. Bought for £9200, sold for £9000 after 8 months. Nothing spent. 10k miles at approx 45mpg = 10p/mile. Now, consider that it earned me IRO £8k during that time and the £1k on fuel and £200 depreciation is of no concern

I now have a saab 9-3 2.2 tid.

its just cost me £110 in fuel, to do 1000 miles

could have prolly got more, but as its a lot quicker than the old smog monster, &

more bhp, the trade off is....

£90 for 1000 miles on the old one, but the tax was higher £180

the new one is £145

Luckily mine is mostly covered by allowances through work although it is still a shocking amount whichever way you look at it.

I'm to scared to work it out, i know my landcruiser returns about 18 mpg, after i worked that out, i was'nt too bothered about what the WR1 do'es to the gallon, i'd hate to think how much i've lost on cars over the years, but if i sat down and worked it out i would only have spent the money on something else, so who cares!

Just worked it out for the sh1tter - 15p/mile for fuel, tax, insurance, MOT and repairs
(it's worth about £200 so depreciation's negligible )
